please help! 94 golf won't stay running

1.8 mono motronic gas,Runs fine for 30 seconds the dies.Never enough time to
put any test equipment on it.Won't read any codes,put in new ecm no
difference.What stops the thing from reading codes?Has fuel ,spark and
compression.Has anybody out there had this problem.I took it to vw mechanic
,he worked on it for 9hours with no luck.It is too nice of a car to
to give up.Please anybody HELP.

I am not really a mechanic, but in this case I would check an exhaust
system as well.
It might be just a clogged catalytic converter, I've seen this case
with my own eyes and symptoms were exactly the same.

Fuel pump may be shot.
check the fuel pressure.
Do you have an inductive timing light? clip it on to the wire and try and
run the car. If you see the light go off before the car dies, the car is
cutting power to the spark through the ECU.
If not, the ECU is cutting fuel, or you have a problem with fuel delivery
(clogged fuel filter, malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator)
