Not so fast. I also have a 2003 TDI Jetta wagon
and I have been complainaing about this exact
issue since I first got it. There are about
17 different ways this car's design sucks when
it comes to water and drainage. Every time I
open the driver's side door I get splashed.
Every time I open ANY door I can see water
pooled along the bottom of the door frame.
Every time I open the cargo hatch water leaks
out of various nooks and crannies. And who
knows what little hidden locations water may be
pooling in, ready to cause premature rust-out.
These problems are NOT due to faulty seals, they
are basic boneheaded design flaws. Clearly,
nobody at VW ever bothered to think about such
matters and never bothered to actually drive
the car in the rain, or even through a carwash...

>This is a defect in my TDI, but its getting repaired free of charge.

That's remarkable considering how many horror
stories we all have to tell about VW service.

My '02 Jetta driver's side door leaks like a seive while
driving in the rain. I have to stuff a kleenex in between
the door frame and rubber fitting to prevent water from
running on the electric window switches.

I've never even asked that this be fixed; I've had such
lousy luck with more severe problems.... I'm using a new
dealer, now so maybe the next time I'm in for an oil change,
I'll ask them about the problem.

I'm not so good at math, but methinks I'll be looking at a
different manufacturer for my next car. :-( I *so* wanted
to enjoy and like my new VW. I was considering Audi, but
they're owned by VW, so nope. Maybe I'll have to go back to
Japanese.

Ah Yea,

Looking at your responses and further research, I'm definately bumbed about
the storm water design situation with VW. I know its been only a few
months, but otherwise I've been very satisfied with the car. But the
prevelance of horror stories I've heard about leaks and the seeming lack of
initiative on VW's Part to fix some design flaws sounds a bit disturbing.

Brain, you really need to take a serious look at lemon laws before throwing
in the towel. I think it is criminal that you have a 02 Jetta leaking like a
sieve. There is an 18 month statute in the Virginia law. Be sure to check
out the situation in your state. It may be worth your time.
