Everyone looks like an ridiculous to someone.
I just turned 46 and my wife and I purchased a 99.5 Jetta GLS in Feb of last
year. This year in July we traded the car in for a 2000 Passat. We looked
ridiculous in the Jetta. LOL :~) NO NO NO NO NO we really liked the Jetta
but for real people in their "40's an up", the back seat is a bit too tight
especially when getting in and out of the car. The Passat is terrific. We
had some old 60+ year old :~) friends comment that the back seat was
great.

I don't see why anyone should be thought of as a fool for driving a certain
type of car, as long as it's a VW that is. I saw a woman that was no less
than 60 driving a Beetle the other day. In any case, I own a Jetta, and I'll
be 19 in about 3 weeks :)

Go for it. I've seen numerous old ladies in beetles, remembering the
wild years I guess. I just turned 18, I've driven '65 Type II, '84 Vanagon,
and my own '86 GTI. My 50 y/o dad hasn't driven anything but VW's.
I saw a guy cruising town in a 2000 GTI while on my work out.. Mid
50's, outback hat on. I flagged him down, he looked at me weird. I just
checked over his interior, told him cool car, and kept on my run.
No real point to this story. VW's (and most all European cars) are
cool. 16 or 60.

Old enough to hold a job, or have held a job, that will enable them to
purchase the VW of their choice.
This could be an older individual living on a retirement income or a kid

I can't remember the web site, but I remember reading that the average Jetta
owner makes ~ $80,000/year, and I don't see many 20 year olds making that
kind of money.

By the way, I'm 32 and would be thrilled to know that someone might think

Considering that the new Jetta just looks like a slightly smaller Passat
(unless you get the fancy model), why would you look silly? I'm 47, I did
the Car-O-Scope at the Car Talk web site (pretty funny), and it said I was
_older_ than the average Passat driver, which surprised me.

Well I would say buy an VW at any age. Or you could just
buy a boring camry or Taurus. Hopefully, I will never buy
anything but VW. I am on my third VW and it will take much
convincing to buy any other brand. They just hold up well
and drive excellent. BTW I am 26 and married if that
matters to anyone on the demographics of the owners of VW's

I seem to have most of you beat! I'm 56 years old, don't make near 80 grand,
just bought a 84 vanagon and Drive a 99.5 Jetta TDI for work. It has 44
thousand miles and I enjoyed every one. My wife, still 29, has a 91 jetta
diesel with a sunroof. My 28 year old daughter and son in law have a 99.5
jetta and my son's is a 92. I've bought 4 new vw's and have owned somewhere
around thirty of them. At least half were diesels. "Our" first car was a 66
beetle purchased when it was 6 months old. So anybody and everybody can
drive a jetta. In the old days vw drivers waved at one another.

I unloaded my "macho" '98 Cherokee for a 2000 VR6. Let me tell you
something, I don't CARE how I look. I just love blowing the doors off the
20 somethings in their tricked out Hondas, little pickups, and Nissans. It
was fairly inexpensive, does 20-25 mpg depending on how I drive, handles the
corners well enough (although these factory tires SUCK), and is just a blast
to drive. I'll be 43 in a couple of months...

Dude, us Jetta drivers are always waving here in Maryland. Sometimes it's
just a nod, or a point, or even "Hey, great color." at the stop light.
Kinda flipped me out a while. I've also noticed that the youngsters
(20-30s) often ask "When you going to trick it out?" Interesting question.
I've heard the VR6 has few upgrade options...

26 M driving a '94 Jetta-///... I definitely see myself buying
another Jetta after I'm through with this one. My sister drives
a '90 Jetta, and she'll probably get another one as well

Initially before I bought my Jetta I used to think Jettas and VWs
in general were "chic" cars because I'd always see young blonde
girls driving them, but in the right hands it's a car with
less "flower" and more power... I simply LOVE driving it, it's
very nimble, has awesome pick up even in factory condition, very
safe and stable at 110 MPH (highest I've had the nerve to take it
to on a public highway for fear of those pesky state troopers) and
great on gas when I obey the speed limit. Great all around car.
But best of all VW "people" are some of the best people you'll find.

BUY ONE TODAY!

Agreed! I've seen numerous middle-aged or older women driving New
Beetles and other VWs, older men too. Nothing about the Jetta seems
exclusively youth-oriented. A Grand Am with all the dopey cladding, etc.
would seem kinda silly for an older person, but not any VW I can think
of. My dad is 62 and has always driven VWs, from a 64 Beetle to a 95
Passat VR6. Our joke is as long as he's driving VWs and not Buicks or
Town Cars then he must not be an old fart. Cars like those MAKE you
drive "old".

Kevin M

I agree that a Jetta is a perfect car for any age of driver. Except for
maybe the Cabrio, VW seems to purposely design their cars to "fit" all
demographic groups. Nobody looks "out of place" driving a Jetta -- unlike,
say, an 18-year-old driving a Buick, or a 64-year-old driving a Toyota
Echo.

The vast majority of Cabrio drivers are female. But of course that doesn't
stop some men from owning Cabrios... especially those that buy one for their
"girlfriend" or "wife" but end up driving it all the time!

Some would also argue that the New Beetle is also a "chick" car, but that's
