0.024" to 0.032" should be good for the plug gap and 6 deg BTDC as scoped on
the flywheel marks at the timing hole on the transmission. Engine warmed at
Idle.

A 92 1.8l engine would be Digifant, not CIS/CIS-E. The procedure for
setting the ignition timing is more elaborate and is documented in the
Bentley manual. I've never done it before, but I know it involves messing
with the coolant temperature sensor.

That's why so many Digifant VWs run like crap... people time them at
idle like CIS. Set the timing on a Digifant car with the throttle
blocked open to 2250 RPM with the coolant temperature sensor
