Hey!

I'm getting ready to drop a K&N (box) airfilter in a 97 GtiVr6 DE, but I just
got my first European Car mag and I came across RAMAIR filters!........I have
used K&N in my 86scirocco/ 85volvo 240 Turbo/ 90Volvo 760 Turbo, and I have
seen increase in power. I have no clue about this Ramair. Is it
washable/re-oil? How does it stack up with the
K&N?.......Price?........Durability?........Mo Power???

Thank you
DGTIVR6

I have a Ramair in my '78 Scirocco - only because it has a washable
element, so I can save some on air filters. Watch out for those
airboxes/filters that suck air from in the engine compartment - hot air =
less power. Better to get air from the designed location, or so says
european car mag.

To DGTIVR6 re K&N vs Ramair:
In our racing GTI VR6 we saw better breathability and better response . It
was one of the many things that was very usefull in our Championshipwins.
And its only a couple of bucks more. Buy it!!!!

There seems to be something lacking from the responses so far. We have
heard positive spin on breathability and such, what about the reason the
filter is there .......... to get the crap out of the air.
Breathability and air flow should not be the only criteria ............ long
term effect on the engine is more important for most of us.
I would be interested to know if that is compromised one way or the other
relative to what VW supplies us and between K&N and Ramair (or for that
matter P-Flow)??

It doesn't really matter, they both suck in hot air from the engine. On a cold
day, they probably make about 5 horsepower each anyway, there is never much of
a difference from one brand filter to another, the main concern is routing cold
air to the filter more than what brand it is, I use a K&N from neuspeed but I
have an airbath system from ABD tuning and have noticed a nice jump in
responsiveness.

I have had my airbath for about 4 months now.. I like it... I bought mine from the maker, I know he offers a discount to VW list members, so I just got mine from him..
