I have a 92 SLC w/power locks. The drivers side door handle is now busted.
I took it all apart tonight and I can see the little arm that pushes down
the latch inside the door is busted off. Nice work, VW. So, I called my o'
so friendly local dealer and found out a new door handle is about $135
w/tax!! Gotta love that. I think I can buy most of the engine for my
rabbit GTI for that. I cant say Im surprised, but I definitely want to
explore other options here (read : I want to fix this for $5).

So, can I somehow retrofit a door handle from a more "junkyard friendly"
vehicle on my Corrado, or do I need to bend over (once more) and take it
from my dealer? Does a Passat, Audi, A3 G/J handle fit? Can it be modded to
fit? Can I do ANYTHING other than pay my grubby money hungry F4cker dealer?

Please please please tell me I can.

Thanks for the info!

Paul

Only Corrado door handles work.... not even the B3 ('90-'94) Passat's handles,
which appear the same, will work.

You can, however do that "shaved" handles thing, which, IMHO looks ugly as all
hell and you no longer have that nice German handle to pull on to open a door,
you'll have a freakin' trim piece you lift up to open the door.

Paul, relax. Breathe IN. Breathe OUT.

OK, look you don't have to go to the dealer, unless you want to. Besides
our good friend Mark @ <http://www.germanautoparts.com> you should also
know about Mike @ <http://www.parts4vws.com>

Both these guys (East & West Coast respectively) are quality providers
of fine 'goiman' engineering products.

Drop em a dime, I'll bet they can get you what you need and for a decent price.

hth,
TBerk
