I'm looking to sell a V.W. 2 litre "bubble block" engine (8v) complete
with Neuspeed Throttle Body and Autotech cam. The engine is still
connected to the transmission. I'm not sure exactly what I should
charge for such an engine. I pulled it out of my wrecked Scirocco II
last October; the engine was only used about a year and a half (less
than 20,000 miles). I originally paid about $2,000 for just the
engine (not including the extra goodies) new.
Does anyone know what I might be able to ask for this item used?

BTW the tranny is not new and just a stock unit.

Any help is appreciated.

Sorry, if it's an 8V, it's not a 2.0L bubble block (that's a 16V engine).
The only 2.0L 8V engines are from the Audi and new 8Vs. From a S2, that
would be a 1.8L.

Seems a little odd then that it IS a 2.0L bubble block (8V). I'm
confident that I know what I purchased. Isn't Audi and VW one in the
same? Hence the reason that most of their parts depict both logos.
If you want to be technical, it is an engine designed for an Audi, but
I had it installed in a Scirroco. I still don't know its fair market
value...being used and all.

Wasn't the engine in the 90-92 GTI 8v a 2.0 liter?

The 2.0L block found in the 1993+ VWs is the ABA
The 2.0L block found in the Audi 80 is the 3A

The ABA block that I have has no bulges or bubbles where the pistons
are. This block is about 1" taller than a "regular" 1.8L.

i don't think that they had an 8v gti from 90-92, did they? i thought
that all the gti's from that time were 2l 16v, and the 2l 8v didn't
come out till the a3's in... 93? 94?

Well, okay, one more time. 90-92 there was a "gti" and the real thing,
a gti 16v. the former was a 1.8 with digifant injection. the later
was a 2.0l with the motronic injection.

jud.

Sure did. My buddy owns a 92 8V.

It is something more than 16mm taller.
(1 inch ~= 25.4mm)
5/8 inch ~= 15.88mm
Uses 159mm rods....
