Just called my nearest Michelin Dealer (sears), The only 165R15's that they
have are Michelin XZX. Are these any good? I also checked out the michelin
site and they dont list the XZX, anybody have a good picture of the tread,
and sidewall for me?? BTW they are $67 Each. (Im not worried about price)

I've heard ONLY good things about the XZX's. Those are the exact
tires I'm going to buy for my car when they're up for new rubber.

Good all around tire, just got 4 last weekend, no picture, has black
sidewall with chevrons turning into straight grooves ,about a inch long,
going toward the center. The tread has four rows of chevrons interlocking to
form S's( if looked down on tread, looks wiggle, not straight grooved
tread).I was looking for Pirelli P3, they just laughed..In North Calif., Les
Schwab was 67$,Costco was 47$ Lloyd....

I buy them; the sidewalls last well, and so does the tread. The price here
is usually around $90 equivalent, though, so you're lucky again on price in
the USA! Is that why Walmart wants to get in on the UK market?

Excellent tire! I have been using them, or their predecessors, for 30
years. I just wore out a pair about a month ago. They were 1981 date
codes and I figure I had about 150k miles on them when I finally wore
through to the belt on one. I replaced them with a new pair of 165 SR
15 XZXs.

Are you kidding? These are the best tires you can get for your car.
They have a very cool tread design, one that looks like it should be on
an old European car. It's best to spend the extra $10 each for these
tires because they will last for many years on a bug if you rotate them
regularly. I am in So. Cal and work for America's Tire Co. (sister
company of Discount Tire Co.) and we sell them here in California for
about $54 each. If you can find one in your area, come to us. I always
recomend these to people who come in with bugs, and I also put them on
my bug. They are VERY cool! Kelly Springfield (makers of Goodyear) also
make a very good tire called a Monarch which will also last very long
if you take care of it. We sell those for about $30-$45 each.

I remember the old bald ones on my car seemed to hold on better than the new
ones! Even in the rain!... actually - slight exaggeration - they are good
though. I had a pai of 145's on the front though - not the best for grip!

By far the best tires you could offer to your VW....
I've driven several brand, Michelin were the very best !!!

I'd been using 185R14 Michelin XZX on my bus for many years.
This was a very good tire. In '96, I needed to replace two
before a trip from L.A. to the Canadian arctic.

My local FLATS said the XZX was very hard to find as it had
been discontinued! Michelin's replacement was the MX tire.
The MX seemed equal to the XZX in every regard (including the
price $70) except for the tread pattern. The XZX had the old
familiar 'sargeant' tread patterns and the MX did not.

Last year I moved that pair of Michelin MX tires to spares
and put four Bridgestone RD603 lite truck tires on the ground.
Same price as the Michelins, but slightly higher load and
ply ratings. YMMV

They also said they couldn't order anything...
Think I'll try a "manager" next time!

Michelins are exceptional tires. I've had a set on a seldom driven
Notchback since 1986 (that's what the receipt sez.) I bought the car with
them in 1992. Here's the kicker--they've never flatspotted, even after
sitting in one position for over a year!! The sidewalls show cracks from age
alone, but they still ride, handle and grip like new. I love michelins!!
