can anybody help me find the problem here. my bug makes a clicking noise
in the rear brake area upon turning corners at all speeds. it gets worse
the faster i go. the sound is a rubber clicking noise. after inspecting
the brake area, i have concluded that the noise comes from the oil slinger
nose hitting the rubber dust sleve on the brake cylender.
it puzzles me that it only happens when turning though. no sound is made
when going straight. any ideas out there?
also, it seams that no matter
what i do, the rear brake emergency cables never have enough pull in them
to engage the brake. i have readjusted the rear brakes and cable, but no
good. any ideas??
thanks and God Bless

What's a "rubber clicking noise" ?? :)
Seriously, though - could it be a worn CV joint (although this would tend to
give a heavier knock, but often starts off as a slight "click")?
This will often manifest itself when turning corners, as the driveshaft
load angle changes. It also happens at all speeds. The good news is that CVJs
are pretty easy to replace.
Hope that helps,
Tim.
I don't know about the the noise but as far as the h/brake is concerned
the problem could be that the cable tube has come adrift. Have a look
behind the rear wheel and find where the cable comes out of the tunnel.
There should be about 30mm of metal tube before the bush on the flexible
housing. If not thats the problem.
You can also look into the tunnel under the h/b handle in the car. There
are two tubes - if one is longer than the other that is also an
indication. Do you get a sort of clunk when you pull on the h/b? Thats
because the lever is catching on the tube.
I had this problem and solved it by putting a short length of copper water
tubing over the protruding stub of the tube at the back, making it the
right length again. I still get the clunk (but only sometimes) and will
weld the original tube back in place as soon as I get some time ...

Stephen
Mat,
The noise from your rear wheels is produced by the brake shoes,
it happents after the drums have been turned a few times,
the brake shoes loose there stability when the adjusters are out to fare
You can buy some anti knock washers for you VW store, or on the after-
market, you install them between the adjuster and the brake shoe anker
good luck
