I'm going to replace all the rubber parts on my 67 this spring. After
looking around in some of my favorite catalogs I noticed some big price
differences. West Coast Metric has a door rubber kit for $350 and
Wolfsburg West has their's for $190. Quite a price difference... can
anyone tell me why I should pay the extra $160 for the WCM kit? Is it
that much better? They both seem to have the same parts in them.

Thanks,

We are suppliers for both companies. The WW kits use brazilian door seals,
and the WCM door seals are made by WCM, and are REALLY nice (that is a $100
change right there).

The WCM kit also includes more interior rubber parts (door panel clip seals,
for one) that the WW kit doesn't have.

I would go with the WCM kit in this instance. Please consider us as a source
for your order Dave.

This part is difficult to find on our site RIGHT NOW (we are working on it)
but

any WCM kit you want, type into our KEYWORD SEARCH with a dash instead of a
space and you will get it.

In this example, keyword search "113-0667" and it's right there. You can use
this method to find parts on our site using RMMW or VW part #s, with a -
instead of the space.

From what I hear, Wolfsburg West's Rubber is made in taiwan.. And that only
WW window chrome moulding will fit on WW rubber. You will not be able to
use back your stock chrome.

That's what I heard...

I am in no way connected to WCM

Much of WW's rubber *is* WCW stuff. I bought all of my rubber for my '57 from WW and was very
happy. I spent a lot of time researching parts and prices and on many occasions asked WW who the
manufacturer was. The only Brazillian rubber that I know of that WW sells are door seals. They
have an option of German seals which I bought. For the pair, the price difference approaches $100,
so that might be part of the discrepancy.

WW does "manufacture" (in the US, not at WW) some of their own rubber parts, but not many.

WCW may make their own door seals, and no doubt, they make very good quality products. But I would
probably take German seals over WCW if given the choice.

Bottom line: ASK vendors whoa nd where each part is manufactured. If they stammer and won't tell,
go to the next vendor.

and when you have it all sorted out, call John C at aircooled.net and order from him (see? im
lurnin')

My "rule of thumb" on this stuff is this

When buying rubber, WCM

When buying trim and other hard core vintage parts, WW.

This makes it simple, and you won't go wrong.

Of course you can get both from me and save a little time. :-)

and I'll give you a shirt for an order this size.

tell me size (they run slightly smaller than listed) and color (blue or
white).

read the fine print: It only applies on the stuff THEY MANUFACTURE.

I sell their stuff, and love their rubber, but you can't go into a purchase
blind. You set yourself up for disappointment.

There you go, folks! John will give you the shirt off his back :-) (well,
ok, off his shelf, but it landed on his back as he pulled it off the top
shelf, and had to put six of them back)

I got the WCM door rubber (and everything else) from aircooled.net. The
seals are VERY nice.
Perfect fit, excellent rubber. I wouldn't be surprised if they are better
than original. (hard to tell after 30 years, though)

I bought door seals for my 70 from WW and they had a very poor fit.
If I had it to do over I wouldn't get the seals from WW.

The reason I wrote they might be better is because of the improvements
in rubber technology since 1970.

The instructions that come with window rubber are reprints of a magazine
article. The article states that the window seals are better than
original because of the use of synthetic rubber.

Any chemists out there?
