yet another bug problem.... seems like I always come to this group with
my hat in my hand...

The trusty '69 Jamaica Bug's single port engine was making bearing like
sounds - so I figured that it would be best to replace before something
flew through the side of the block. I had a dual port engine from a '73
that I am parting - so I thought "what the heck" and put that in the
'69. Sure enough - went right in, BUT when I put the clutch in I am
rewarded with a serious grinding sound.

Question: Am I going to have to change flywheels? What is making that
noise? Can I get away with just moving the clutch / pressure plate from
the old engine.

TIA!!!! Please respond to the group - my email address is anti-spammed

Likely the throw out bearing, throw out fork and/or pressure plate.
Check all...

Throw out assembly is new - but the pressure plate sounds about right.
There are tow type of plate right? one with the little fingers and one with a
collar ... could that make a difference?

I figured everyone would.ve guess it by now. The later trannies have a throw
out bearing supporting collar therefor don't need the collar on the pressure
plate. I am 95% sure that your trans doesn't have the supporting collar
therefor your pressure plate needs one. The only way to know, is pull the
engine. If the pressure plate doesn't have the collar, switch pressure plates.

The one with the collar is an early. If your transmission has a sleeve
around the input shaft, this is not the one to use. I'd get more specific,
but it's lunch time....
