Anyone have a good source for the green and red plastic filters that go on the
inside of the speedo for the turn signal and idiot lights.

Doing a restoration of my speedo and these have rotted away.

Thanks
John H.

If they're not textured you can get lighting gels (for theater lights)
in any color you want

good luck

Yeah, plus the fact that a single par 64 gel will do something like 500
speedo lights! =^)
You might also try craft stores for any type of heavy cellophane
sheeting. Not the type used for wrapping, something stiffer, more like a
light gel.
You could also try your local plastic & lexan dealers (Tap Plastics
around here) for lucite in a very thin gauge & the color you want. One
plus with lexan is that (even the thinnest stuff) it's just thick enough
to texture if you want.

Good luck,

haven't tried it myself, but in the past others have recommended those
color tabbed report section dividers for 3 ring binders. any office
supplies/drug store will have them.

Sprite soda bottle plastic for the green, go to an office supply store and get
hanging file folder tab color coded "windows" for the red. Or as another poster
pointed out, a theatrical lighting supply store, get a whole sheet for about $7.
that stuff will last forever....

bah they are all wrong... The items you need are located in your christmas
stuff.. Red and Green ribbons that you use at christmas time are the best to
use...cut and glue

I used a piece of photographic film, (or even better some old X-ray plate
film), painted to the right color with water markers, and cut to the proper
shape.
Use more than one to get the desired density.
Works great.

I just replaced the little bulbs with red and green high output LED's you
cant tell that the plastic filters are bad and their even brighter now! I
even did the high beam one with a blue LED.

Interesting idea. Where did you get the LEDs?

Don't forget that you need a ballast resistor.

Might try asking a florist. They usually have green, red, and yellow
cellophane on rolls for fruit baskets and the like. Ask if they have any and
if they'd mind selling you a small square - they might even give it to you
since they go through a LOT of this stuff.

I've never heard of a blue led before. I knew they were trying to make one
but they couldn't make it. Were did you find it?

I've heard of them before. They are VERY expensive - IIRC about UK£1.50
(US$2.18) each in the UK (as opposed to UK£0.05 (US$0.08) for a 'normal'
one...)

Get the taillight repair tape thats red at your local auto-zone or kragen. I
did all my lights in those, including backlights for speedo and fuel gauge.
now everything lights up bright red!

You can find then from any place that do's auto alarm's or custom work like
the glow tubes under the car's.
they have been out now for many years it's the same technology that's in
the color displays for laptops.
you just need to put in the right resistor for the LED if 6v or 12v
application.
