When I'm driving my 66 VW Bug I get a popping noise when I am coasting.
Like after I had Accelorated then let off the gas. Any help is
appreciated.

Sounds like backfiring due to a leaky exhaust. Replace the exhaust and it
should quit.

Intake leaks cause backfires too, due to some of the mixture
leaning out in places. See my other post regarding Passing
Emissions Tests ,and you'll see that I had similar symptoms
to this with my '74. Now, that's a dual port 1600 with a
Solex 34-PICT-3, and it's got a lot more places to leak air
than a stock 1300 1966 engine... but it's a real good place
to start looking.
Look for loose intake manifold bolts, loose carburetor mount
bolts, a sloppy throttle shaft, a loose idle cut-off jet, missing
or cracked vacuum lines, a bad distributor diaphragm, or
just a dirty carburetor. Dual port cars also have rubber
boots on the intake manifolds which need regular attention.
Good luck.... Rob

Like the other dudes suggested, check the exhaust for leaks,
but also check the ignition timing, and the vacuum hose between
the distributor and carb.

If you rev the engine really high and hear the same popping sound, it is
most likely a tight valve. Many people, mechanics namely, set the valves
when the engine is warm, big no-no. You have to set them in the morning
when the engine has not run for hours, stone cold. A fighter jet
thermally expands 10cm from tip to tail when in operation. Just think
what a heated up valve will expand. A fraction of an inch is just enough
to set it wrong. Good luck.

Thanx everyone for the help! :) I think I found the problem. We'll see.
Again thanx.

SO, what was the problem, how did you solve it?

We have been following this thread waiting for the answer., not just a sign-off.

TIA

Thanx!
But the problem turned out to be where the exhaust bolts to the engine.
There was even a bolt missing. I had to take off the back tin where
those heater tubes go into the heat exchangers. Then I could get to it.
Man its so quiet now. I didn't realize how loud it got. :)
