I am in the process of rebuilding two type 4 Volkswagen bus /
Porsche 914 two litre air cooled engines and have been looking
around for some time for an SPG roller crank to allow me to use
these engines at higher revs without too much wear on the crank
case. Can anybody help me either locate someone who has one of
these cranks or put me in touch with a company that sells them
or something equivalent? I plan on ending up with one type 4 with
the best bits of both to drop into my APAL porsche speedster
replica and replace the existing underpowered 1600 engine.

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I would prefer an address in the UK or europe (bit easier on the
duty), but I know I'm probably pushing my luck.

I don't beleive that roller cranks are available anymore. For that
matter, the only ones I ever heard of were for type 1 engines. You can get
some pretty nice counterweighted cranks, and those should be just fine for
high revs.

Many thanks for your replies. I just wanted to make sure I had
researched everything properly before I start spending my hard
earned cash. Now I know that this particular crank is not necessary
and am now in the getting information about Bernie Bergman (full
circle counterweighted crankshafts) and FAT performance.
I will be in America in a few months time with a charged up visa card.
Does anyone have any positive/other experiences with these companies
as I have heard they are both very good.
As an aside it's rather strange how I have to travel thousands
of miles to get the best parts for a German car when Germany is
less than 400 miles away!
