Does anyone know where to get new seat belts for my 71 SB?? I would
LOVE to find replacement parts for the spring-loaded retractors also
(these are on the belt, small white (well, OK, beige now :) ) and are
supposed to wind the belt up, but mine have given up.

My retractors broke off last year (mine had gone from biege to ruddy
brown!)... I can't find replacement stock seat BELTS let alone stock seat
belt accessories! But I'll let you know if I come up with anything... And
I've tried junkyards (my mechanic has a VW parts yard... hallowed place
indeed...) and I couldn't find any functional ones...

And do you know how to get the crunchiness out of them? Mine is a daily
driver and I always use my seat belt, as do my passengers (sadly though,
most of my travelling is commuting back and forth to work...). The back
seats are the worst, followed by mine... For some reason though, the
passenger belt is supple as ever! Haven't wanted to unbolt 'em and wash
'em (sometime that makes fabric like this more brittle...) Any ideas?
Anyone know the right way?

I had crusty seatbelts, too, during my resto, and I figured there was
not much to lose so when I had them all removed I dumped all of 'em into
a bucket with some Tide (and water ;). Not a lot just a scoop. I let 'em
soak for a few hours, then worked like an old washwoman doing laundry by
hand. You wouldn't believe the nasty color the water turned. I kept
swooshing 'em through the water one at a time replacing the soapy
solution until the water came relatively clear. I then towel dried them
and set 'em out in the sun to dry. You wouldn't BELIEVE the difference.
They're as supple and nice and black as new. And I'm sure I lost some of
that 'marijuana smell' as well... %*)
