Hi

I have a standard 34pict3 solex carby. Are there any mods for this carb?
I have a single vaccum advance distributor on a 1600 TP engine.

thanks
ray

Hi Ray,

If you're in northern Oz where you don't need the heaters, route the heater
air from the right side of the shroud into the warm air inlet of the air
filter box. You can buy a new air hose and bend it into a loop for this.

Close the valve in the neck of the airbox so that pressure builds up in the
airbox when the engine is running. It's by no means a turbo, but it sure
helps push the air through the air filter element and into the carby.

Not sure if its psychological, but I feel that I get more torque with this
rigged up. Maybe 'cos its pushing in fresh air from the fan, rather than
sucking in hot air from the engine compartment.

You can remove the venturi and have it machined to 28-29mm, no larger.

Mingliod,

This has been tried time and time agsain - there are LONG threads on
the subject here if you care to search.

Doesn't work!

The main reason is that you now have an increased pressure inside the
float bowl (it takes it's breather air from the carby throat), which
stuff up the pressure balance between atmosphere on top of the fuel v
lower pressure in the throat which results in the appropriate fuel
flow.

What you are describing it "upstream" supercharging, which needs a
completely sealed craby taking all it's breather air from the
compressed air rather than from the atmosphere.

All noraml supercharger systems have the carby BEFORE the
supercharger, so it's working in a normal atmospheric pressure regime.

Yes you can see Hot VW's "Stock carb capers" May '80
They increased flow from stock 103 cfm at 25 " to 124 cfm. They say this is
good for 4-5 hp increase on 1600.

i modified many of old 34 picts with success.
i usually bore out the 26mm venturi to 28.5m and drill out main jet to
140 and air corrector to 100.
works very well
i have one on my 1914cc engine. work well also with engle 110
the secret to let it work at low rpm is to have a good compression (not
worn out if stock) and boring the venturi leaving intact the shape of the
venturi itself (not a straight hole)
