Problem is that I would like to paint '64 bug with original early sixties
light yellow tone, but now I'm not sure whether this L19K is the correct
color.
I'm looking for the color combination you can find at
http://www.vwmagazine.com/guif/color/ with light yellow exterior and red
interior.
All possible help is neede.
As you may already know, Volkswagen did not offer any shade of yellow in 1964.
In fact, at least according to my research, they offered no yellow during the
sixties until the 1969 model year. So, to be frank, there is no such thing as
an "original early sixties light yellow tone".
On the other hand, if you want to go with Yukon Yellow (L19K) trust the formula
and not the paint chip sample. Remember that a lot of these paint chips are
quite old (and discolored) themselves. I tried to match my color (Cobalt Blue)
with the dealer's chip book and, honestly, what he was showing for Cobalt Blue
wasn't even close.
Yukon Yellow was the only yellow VW offered for about three years. It's best
described as exactly what you seem to want, a light pastel yellow.
I wanted to use PPG acrylic urethane and also wanted Yukon Yellow, however,
they didn't have a formula for it exactly. They had a cross-reference to an
American Motors color called "Light Creme", which I used. It is not very
yellow, nor is the original Yukon Yellow I've seen on cars, at least not after
30 years or so.
You can see a photo of the PPG paint on my car here:

From what I hear, Spies Hecker probably has the exact match.

I'm still little confused with these codes.
Do you think that VW has only changed the code from L1009 (or L10009) to
L19K keeping the color same or have they also "updated" the color tone?
thanks in advance

I checked also the rally yellow but it was somehow too bright and didn't
match the interior.
For some time I also considerd saturn yellow but that also didn't match tie
interior, but if you want a yellow that really stands out check the saturn
yellow, which I think is somewhere between pure yellow and lemon yellow.
many thanks
Teemu
Yes, you're right, I just got a spray can sample of yukon yellow mixed from
Spies Hecker colors with L19K code and it looks to be OK (like your car! )
I also think it's the same as L1009.

Izzatso? Hmmmmmm........The authority I quote (heavenly choir rising in unison
in the background) is J.T. Garwood. He notes that Yukon Yellow was offered
only on convertibles in 1969. It was offered on both convertibles and sedans
in 1970
