6th planet auto parts uncovered...(LONG!)

I have been dealing with joe cunt-rone from 6th planet for about 2
weeks over a damn sideview mirror. I have discovered many wonderful
things about the way he does business, and hopefully this story will
be a lesson to all of you fellow saturn owners out there to not deal
with these idiots when you need used parts. Here's the rundown on what
happened:

I hit a construction barrel, break off my passenger sideview mirror. I
Email Joe at 6th planet about a replacement mirror...he says he has
one. Next day, he emails me back saying oops he doesnt have one. Two
days later, he emails me saying he has one. I go to paypal and send
them the $80.50 for the mirror. The next day, i get an email saying
oops, he doesnt have the mirror, he'll send me a refund via a check in
the mail. I get the check, and the same day i get yet another email
saying he found a mirror. I say i still have the check, but haven't
cashed it, do you want me to send you a picture of the check all
ripped up? he says no i'll take your word for it that you wont cash
it. I recieve the mirror Tuesday, open the box and it is screwed up:

the outside of the mirror was scratched all to hell. It looks like
someone hit it with a hammer then rubbed it with steel wool. There is
one of the three studs missing where the mirror attaches to the door.
Inside, where the glass attaches to the motor, is broken. These issues
make the mirror worthless to me. This is where it gets ugly...what
follows are our emails back and forth...

my first email upon opening damaged mirror:

Let me just say i am HIGHLY dissapointed in the condtion of the mirror
you sent me...here's whats wrong with it:

1. You never mentioned once that the outside of the mirror was
scratched all to hell. It looks like someone hit it with a hammer then
rubbed it with steel wool.

2. There is one of the three studs missing where the mirror attaches
to the door. You "forgot" to mention that too...

3. Inside, where the glass attaches to the motor, is broken...It must
have slipped your mind, right?

I even had to put up with your bumbling around the junkyard like the 3
Stooges for weeks: we got it...we don't...we got it...we don't....HEY
MOE!...wise guy huh?
Needless to say, i'm gonna need a refund, including return shipping to
Fla. I hope you dont treat all your customers like this, or your
business venture will be short lived.

all it takes is one bolt to hold those in if necessary, two is more
than sufficient and would have held it fine. paint we are not even
responsable for, a can of spray paint would rectify that. the mirror
was not broken other than one bolt when it left and I certainly don't
appreciate the lines about the 3 stooges etc. you can keep the mirror,
its yours , its usable and I don't fell the need to help anyone that
talks to me like that nor am I required to. the mirror worked fine for
me when I tested it, I used the remote control.

excuse me? you are now threatening me? you cash that check and I
assure you I will press charges for cashing a check you wrote was
ripped up. Florida laws are very strict concerning checking accounts
and if you don't think I will follow through you don't know who your
dealing with. oh, and by writing that the check was destroyed and now
saying your going to cash it qualifies it as theft...thanks!

i never said the check was destroyed...you assumed that i had, but i
was keeping it just in case something like this happened. Im sure
Florida has similar laws against selling knowingly defective parts
over state lines, too....
Listen, let's make this as painless as possible. I just got back from
the bank cashing your check. I have NO intention of keeping your
crappy mirror too. I will send it back today on my way to work. I
don't even care about the money for shipping. If you feel the need to
pursue this legally, don't. I don't think this piddly nonsense is
worth wasting any more time over. The only person getting screwed
here is me, out of the return s/h. That should make you more than
happy.

now and reported stolen, go cash it so you can be arrested in your own
bank! there is nothing wrong with the part and you trying to mislead
me only proves what kind of person you are, two bolts hold them in
securely and trying to expect a 5 year old part to look brand new is
unacceptable. thanks for the warning showing your true colors, one
call to my bank and it was taken care of and reported stolen, even if
you cash it then it will show as stolen and your name on the back will
show you as the perpetrator.

sorry to hear that...its already in the ATM now...you never once
informed me of the condition the mirror was in...never told me it was
5 years old, i would have never taken it...why didnt you tell me there
were only 2 studs? that may be a minor detail to you, but your not the
one shelling out big bux for it...BTW , i will be disputing the
charges with paypal/visa....you really should reconsider all this crap
you are doing....the customer always wins...

and clear paid for at age 35 and I can afford to do what I want when I

sent your mirror back in the exact condition it was sent to me in,

First, why the heck did you use paypal instead of a credit card?

Second, you bought used. If you wanted to buy new, then fork over the $200+
for brand spanking new mirror and assembly.

fucking guy kept a check with the intent to defraud my company from the
beginning, and you all listen to one side? now thats smart. he kept the

had intentions to rip us off from the beginning.

I can't (won't) speak for anyone else, and if I am looking for a part I
think you may have, I wouldn't hesitate to call or e-mail you. And I'd

I know I, for one, didn't give it that much thought. I don't think anybody
believes everything they read, particularly with one post. If the newsgroup
was filled with hundreds of posts complaining about your company, that would
be a different story. But nobody would consider your business somehow
fundamentally flawed over one post. Particularly over a pissing contest
like that.

However, he definately captured the essence of your warm & fuzzy side to a

Yea I agree that that guy is a loser, I mean its not like a company to
let its reputation go for no good reason over an $80 mirror, I've been
following (silently) Saturn Services for a few years now, and if I
ever need a part I know I'm going with them... sad thing is my car
just never seems to break down :o) Seriously Joe keep up the good
work, I doubt that most people who seriously read the group sided
against you.

If this is a serious question, then my 2-cent opinion/answer is that there
was simply too much talk about a mirror. The talk spiraled into a pissing
contest, and at that point you both lost. Anger makes us all a little
crazy.

In hindsight, I would have inquired, if I liked what I heard I would have
ordered (I use Paypal too, no probs so far), if I didn't like what I heard I
would have just passed up the offer.

If I ordered the mirror, and when it arrived I it wasn't what I wanted, I
would have returned it simply saying it wasn't what I wanted. And I would
have probably waited a couple of weeks for the refund before contacting the
place you bought from.

Take what I say with a grain of salt, it's only an opinion.

i can only add, i am glad you folks on the Internet are smart enough to have
noticed the whole problem really started with his first email, what you all
didnt know and what liar boy thieve left out was how he kept a check he
claimed was destroyed, i will not waste any more of your time answering to

yes, i lost my cool, when you talk about peoples ex wives, sexual
performance etc. that leads to nowhere, try calling john at sps with a

I have taken the time to read everything associated with this
bullshit, I even downloaded the wav of the answering machine. There
are 2 facts that stick out to me.

1. Dennis Midkiff provoked the company with his first email, and
succeeded very well at it.

2. Joe acted very unprofessional from the beginning. There are
proper ways to handle things like this, anyone that runs a reputable
business would know to never sink to someones level. Unprofessional
and immature. Upon reading the email I would have sent a firm but
professional reply, and filed the proper paperwork. I don't think it
would be worth $80 for all this bad publicity, I would much rather
take the loss and be done with an unruly customer than end up with
this result.

Both parties are at fault, but as the "businessman" Joe should have
never reacted the way he did. If I were Joe I would try and get my
part back legally, and if I was Dennis I would shut up and not insult
people without giving them a chance to make the situation right.

Both parties need to stop the threatening and egotistical behavior, if
anyone were to actually get physical with the other one, the situation
would be even funnier than it already is.

On a side note, if the mirror was truly in the condition Dennis said
it was in I would have been pissed too. Which takes us to the other
issue, if he really got the runaround like he said in the first email,
why didn't he take his business elsewhere? You can find perfect
condition mirrors (w/pics) on ebay for far less than $80, or you could
get off your ass and go to your local junkyard and only pay $50 and
get to see what you are getting. Big mistakes by both, hope they
learned something.

Oh yeah, as far as grammar and spelling go, they both need to go back
to school.

I never even took the mirror outside, dude. I opened it on my kitchen
table, saw it was screwed up, then went and got my digital camera. The

I hear your points and, in a perfect world, Joe would have done as you
described. However, in a perfect world, Dennis would not have "started in"
the way he did. The way things are today, we can get away with acting
pretty crappy without repurcussions just because of the anonymity provided
by both the Internet and large communities in which we live. Fifty years
ago, anyone who acted as Joe did would have acquired a reputation and lost
his business IF he did it all the time. Anyone who acted as Dennis did
would be told to take his business elsewhere IF he did it all the time. In
both cases, everyone would know enough about the parties involved to have a
pretty good idea which side we were on.

As someone who used to work in retail I understand the trite myth, "The
customer is always right." The customer is NOT always right, but he IS
always the customer. Sometimes, it is just too expensive to have him as
YOUR customer.

Two facts stick out to me also:
1. Dish out crap to Joe and Joe will dish it back.
2. I bought a radio from Joe about 18 months ago and I'm a satisfied
customer.

I don't know Dennis and based on his e-mails, I don't care to. However, I
have dealt with Joe and was satisfied. He even diagnosed a problem that I
had, just from e-mails exchanged. Just my personal experience and
observations.

those of us on here that know Joe, and know Joe runs a legit business..... also

due to the fact i own a large company that does more volume per year than
you'll probably gross in your life ( damn, sorry folks, see how i am just
human? i lose it when constantly insulted) my lawyer has closed on my home
last year, closed on an eminent domain case this year (oh let me spell that
out Dennis, eminent domain means i owned a piece of land where the county
used their lawful power to buy it from me because they were putting a road
through, a very complex affair of which im sure you know nothing of.), i
have a custody of a child from a previous marriage, the lawyer handles the
talks for ten years between me and x wifey poos lawyer, again, sorry
folks, i will not add to this thread further, but there is a follow up to
why Dennis kept the check and kept the money, the mirror came back and he
did break it somehow maybe pushing on the glass cause it did work and i
personally tested it with the power switch before leaving, if you push the
glass all the way over you can easily snap the skinny lines that operate the
mechanism , so IF ONE GOOD THING comes out of this thread, as a mechanic to
others,try not to cock the glass sideways by hand when washing your car
etc., they do break quite easily and at anytime. so now we know the real
deal and the great escapades meant to cover it up and defraud my company.
i apologize for anyone's wasted time on my part, yes i did and will lose my
cool, those of you that know me, god forbid a part ever comes broken and we
cant figure it out within a email, you simply say joe can you send a refund
or replacement, it will be done, talk shit especially after you break it and
i hope to not find us in this position.
and a last lesson of the crap i have to deal with, when installing mirrors
the plastic holes the 3 bolts go down into will crack if overtightened, i
recently had a guy break all 3, i nicely asked him to mail back all the
pieces, he nicely asked me to commit mail fraud and put in a claim, when the
mirror arrived and i opened it he had OVERTIGHTENED not one, not two but ALL
3 BOLTS and you could clearly see how the plastic broke at the base as the
bolts were overtightened,. i been a master tech for 15 years, so what i dont
spell good i ace every mechanic test and have more technical degrees than
most.
mechanics can look at a part and read the story, as Dennis pushed the glass
to far and it decided to cut loose.
in closing, i asked melissa about the scratches, she told me she wiped it
with fantastic and a sponge as she cleans EVERY other mirror that leaves
here.
the two god bolts? yes, i will admit, i was trying to help and it was the
only power one i had, i do stand behind my statement that they can be
secured with one, which i wouldn't prefer to do but might if i had to, two
will hold it so well you wouldn't even know one was missing. normally we do
only send them with all 3, again, it was the only one and i was trying to
get this man a part.

well as far as im concerned, its over...we both should have been
nicer, and i admit i started it with the 3 stooges thing. But it was
the last straw after waiting all that time only to get something that
was already broken. I'll apologize to you and the whole Cutrone family
if you will make the phone calls stop. I work 3rd shift and im not at
home when theyre calling anyway.

Joe, I have been in the retail trade for years and I know one thing. The
customer may not always be right but you can never win an argument with him.

I replied to Joe and told him that it does no good to argue with a customer
but you need to know that business people put there lives into their
businesses. When someone tries to bring it down sometimes they are going to
see red. So I think it would be a toss up as to who was the bigger asshole

I would have refunded the money and put the customer on the never deal with
them again list.

I have lost it on customers occasionally but nothing good ever came of it.
