I've only replaced the backs in my 97SL2 - the 6 1/2's are those oversize 6
1/2's. Mine fit perfectly (re: Pioneer TS-A1705).

Is there a chance you have standard 6 1/2's with the Sony's and not the
oversize ones? You might double-check at Crutchfield with their "What Fits"
guide...

Just a thought...

Yeah I do have standard 6 1/2 speakers.....the oversized son 6 1/2"'s were only
1 or 2 ways speakers, and they wanted $30 more for the pair. Crutchfield said
the regular 6.5" will fit, now they are sending me an adapter so hopefully
that will take care of it.
thanks for the help
