Our 1995 SL2 has been a good little car, until the moonroof went
south. It now opens just fine, but won't close electrically. It can be
closed manually, but won't seal tightly. The local Saturn shop says
they can fix it for $435.00! According to them, there is a plastic pin
on each of the moon roof rails that snapped off...the pin itself can't
be replaced; must replace both rail assemblies. After calling and
bitching at Saturn, since we've only used the blasted thing about 10
times since buying the car new, I am really ticked. Anyone else with
similar experience? Any ideas for quick (read that CHEAP) fix?

Thanks!!!!

I had the same experience w/ my 96 SC2. Apparently just one of the clips
broke, I believe on the passenger side which immediately caused the driver
side to break as well( it would open properly but not close without some
help and all that). This happened immediately after the 36K mark, but the
dealer realized that it was obviously a factory defect and only charged my
$100, but the total charge would have been just above $400 had I been
required to pay the full amount for the parts and labor. They also told me
the entire rail unit had to be replaced on each side. I consider myself
fairly educated when it comes to cars and after dismantling and examining my
sunroof there didn't seem to be any simple way to fix it. Good luck
