Still checking in daily, but expect to drop all newsgroups later next
year.

Newsgroups seem to be dying these days - except for a lot of spam
advertising. Seems most people have moved on to the social web sites to
communicate.

Now paying for news since Verizon dropped most everything, and it is
becoming less worth it.

There's no need to pay for newsgroups if you don't need binaries, there
are several free text only newsservers.

I use Eternal September, you can sign up here:

I have never driven a well-tuned and aligned Miata that was not fun. I
like turbos, and this is a pretty mild one on the MSM, so it should be a
blast to drive without being so fast that having fun on the street
becomes difficult.

Like XS11E said, check it out! This is about the perfect time of the
year to go for a deal in most parts of the country.

The MSM may be my next Miata model. The 6-speed will take a little
getting used to, I have only driven 3, 4 and 5 speeds in the past, but
I'll adapt.

Rick from Sugar Land, eh? I think the first guy on the list is from Sugar
Land isn't he? ;-) I'll add you to my list Rick and if you know any good
roads in the area, we need to compare notes! I don't know if people from
other areas realize how flat it is here for about 100 mile radius, there's
hardly an elevation change that isn't man made to cross over or under
another roadway! So, we will drive miles sometimes for a single great curve
and a combination of curves is worth gathering a group up to go and check
out!

That's nice of you to put it that way but I'd love to see more 'lurkers'
participate. You know, even if it's just something interesting or goofy
related to your favorite car (Miata of course) or some other car and how it
relates to our little roadsters. One of the great things about this group is
how 'focused' it stays but it also can make it a bit stale and boring at
times. I'd like to see more posts.

In Yamaha's model system at the time, the E designated the year 1978,
an XS11F would be a 1979, etc. etc.
The 1978 was in many respects a more desirable machine than any of the
later versions because of Yamaha's system of importing of a year's
production before December 31 of any year. Since the 1978 XS11s
actually came into the US in 1977 they were exempt from all smog
regulations that hurt performance, fuel economy and drivability of the
later models. I can't recall all the details but there were changes in
ignition timing, carb jetting, etc. in 1979 models.

Must have been different on the XS650E, which changed wiring and carb
jetting in mid-'78. For some reason they phased in changes - I had one that
was about 30 past the serial-number cutover, it had the later carbs and
earlier wiring.

And then in mid-'79 they ran production out of the XS650F "Standard" and
started making the "Special II". So 1979 has three models that turn up:
Standard, Special, and Special II.

Those were the days, eh? Even I was into bikes back then (and would love to
be now but ....). I had a 1981 (?) KZ550. Black with a thin red and blue pin
stripe, black engine, little quarter fairing. I loved that thing. Kawasaki
had come out with the KZ650 the year before and it's claim to fame was being
faster than any current production 750. My bike came out and was faster than
the KZ650! You don't want to know about the crap pick up truck I traded that
thing for! Necessity sucks some times!

something like 8 and a half years, if we include "waiting for the car"
time :)

but it's something like 10 years since I've first saw NB on tv
(somewhere around the time I got my driving licence)!

I got the '04 in July 2007 - depending on when we did this back
then, I may not have had it yet. The '90 was totalled at the
beginning of June 2007 - she had just over 113,000 on her at the
time.

I still don't like the seats in the '04 but am still in love with
everything else. She just rolled over 30,000 a couple days ago.

We're planning our 6th Annual Polar Bear Drive for January 1,
2010 now. If anyone is interested or brave enough, come join us!

That sounds like a blast, ya'all have fun out there in the cold! Ya, I loved
my 92 but (as with you, other than the seats) I rarely look back and no
regrets. I just think the NB is more solidly constructed and the creaks and
rattles and buzzes used to bother the heck out of me in the NA, rarely any
issue with the NB on this front. Keep on truckin!

Fantastic! I'm going to have to check it out on Google earth! How rare of a
car is a Miata over in Croatia? Do you do all the work on it yourself or is
there qualified mazda / japanese mechanics in the area?

I will add you to my little list!

well, it's not all that black :)

we have official dealer with services/dealer shops trough out the
country (www.mazda.hr), there are numerous shops that can fix the thing
(it's not a space ship). I tend to do the small stuff by my self.

second, we have a club: www.miata.hr (.hr is from HRvatska (that's
Croatia on Croatian) :) we have a meet later on today! All in all there
are some 300 miatas of all ages in .hr, but our little vibrant community
is 20-30 strong:

so you see, we eben hab roudz heers!

I'm sorry if I showed my ignorance of Croatia (and I did, obviously). Thanks
for enlightening me! My wife cracked up when she saw the pictures because
they look JUST LIKE so many other Miata pictures I've showed her in the
past. Just a funny realization that crazy Miata folks are crazy Miata folks,
no matter where you go ;-) Some nice looking Miatas there in the club, by
the way!

Thanks again for jumping into the mix!

I have been lurking on this group for a little over a year. I have a
92 Eunos Roadster that was imported from Japan with right hand drive,
standard and 95000 km on it. Original brilliant black with tan leather
and is a steep learning curve to drive coming out of a F150 auto. I
live in Saskatoon, Sask. Canada and right now it is -36C with a wind
chill of -45C but my raodster is in a nice heated garage waiting for
the snow to disappear.

Al, that's great! I had a 92 just like yours, when I dove into this
wonderful pool back about 10 years ago or so. I had it for ~5yrs and ~75k
miles and sold it for about $500 less than I bought it for! It was actually
in better shape when I sold it than when I bought it ;-)

Thanks for jumping in, I'll add you to the list!
