We use our current thrasher-mobile-- an old Saturn-- for camping, but
since we plan to replace the S**turn with something definitely
unsuitable for camping, maybe the "fun" car ('93 Miata) can fill the
void.
Think about it-- open-air driving by day, open-air sleeping by night...

Mazda Netherlands lists the following data for the 1.8i MX-5
Max. massa aanhanger
Ongeremd 350 kg
Geremd 700 kg
Max. vertikale kogeldruk 50 kg
If you don't know Dutch (why not? ;) ), it reads, maximum mass
of the trailer 350 kg (= 700 lb) no brakes, 700 kg (1400 lb)
brakes. The next line translates literally to maximum vertical
ball pressure 50 kg (100 lb, no jokes please.) I do not know whether
the European MX-5 has any additional fortification, but some
people here have posted that they do tow with their Miata. Search
at http://www.dejanews.com
Hope this helps giving you some idea.

Look in the Moss Motors catalog -- they've got trailers of every kind
for the Miata that are appropriately sized.

Moss Motors (www.mossmotors.com) caries a line of small trailers and
even a mini-camper trailer in their Miata catalog.

Christopher, DON'T listen to all those NAY sayers out there! We have
over 75K on our '93 Black&Tan and about half of that is pulling a luggage
trailer. It is about 3'X 3.5'X 6.5' feet. We load it down. I was sure
my wife would have all the room she would ever need for our little trips to
the Cottage in the North Carolina mountains. WRONG! She can still pack the
trunk and need more room. ;-( Well, that's not what I wanted to talk
about here. YES, you can pull a trailer and NO! it will not hurt a Miata.
The heaviest we may be pulling is 500 lbs. trailer and its load. The
cottage is over 4000 ft. up and the pull has little or no problem. On our
last trip, I even pulled a Polaris 4x4 on a trailer. The total load was
about 750 lbs. That one was a little harder on the steepest grade. I
wouldn't recommend that much on a long term bases, but that one trip it
did well. Get a good hitch and have a reputable installer put it on. You
might look for a motorcycle trailer. They are small and water tight.
You will love it!

You think it, it's done. Seen in an ad in Miata magazine a few years
ago - looked like maybe they pulled a mold off the rear 1/3 of the
car - used the same taillights, bumper shape, trunk lid - but that
was a few years ago at least. Probably sold 3 of them...
