1. What are the pros and cons of owning a miata? Never had one.
2. What should I look for to ensure the car is good?
Any other info would be appreciated as I may make a move on it tomorrow.
Thank you kindly.

Dude,
You HAVE to look in the www.miata.net site in the Internet. They have
all kinds of information as to buying an old Miata. You will not
regret it!
Pros:
-Excellent handling. Much better than "pony cars" or "sporty" cars.
-Small but peppy engine who loves to rev (very smothly)
-Top down driving is great
-approx. 30MPG (less in city-only driving)
-VERY, VERY reliable and low maint.
Neg:
-Small trunk
-Does not have the torque or HP of bigger engines (V-6 or V-8)
-only for two
Recomendations:
-Test drive it for 20-30 minutes in city and highway.
-Check the car, or better yet, contact a local service and have then
checked for you.
-If it turn good, buy it before someone else does!
Good luck!
Depends on the price. One of the unusual things about Miatas is that
there
are a fair number of cars available that are several years old and have
very
low mileage. I was looking at a red 92 a few weeks ago that had 14k
miles on
it.
One of the nice things about the net is you can look at ads for several
geographic
areas to compare prices. Check out www.traderonline.com; just tell it
to look for
all the Miatas on the west coast (or wherever you may happen to live).
I ended up
buying a 92 black special editition for US$11450 here in Seattle. Since
there was one
of these available around here, it was nice to be able to do a little
bit of comparison
shopping all over the west coast, at least on paper. Seeing similar
cars for around
$14000 in San Jose made me think that I was getting a reasonable price.
(The only similar
car I saw up here was a 93 black special edition that a dealer wanted
$19000 for, which
seemed just a tad excessive. I just checked again today, and it's still
for sale, but they've
dropped to $17995, which still seems absurd.)

So if you want a convertible (I drive with the top down a lot) and want to
have fun and want a car which drives extra well and want a reliable vehible --
those are your reasons.
BTW, I was trying to sell my red miata (1992) but it has Package B (most are
Basic or have Package A). Package B has Pkg. A plus cruise control, power
windows and headrest speakers. I also have 4 new tires and a luggage rack.
I was willing to sell mine for $8900 even though it is in great shape and
worth $11,600 according to the books. I also have a full warranty that lasts
until Jan. 22, 1998 (not 1997) -- this should cover anything major that would
go wrong. I have 85K. If I cannot get $8900 or more for the car, I will keep
it -- after all, it is a Miata. Otherwise, I will buy a new Special Edition Miata
with leather seats.
Email me if you want any more info. $9500 for a 93 with low miles and only
Package A sounds a bit high -- does it have a 1-1/2 yr warranty? New tires?
Luggage rack? White ones are much more prevalent than red ones, too.

I checked mileage for the entire first year and never
got below 32 MPG -- a lot depends on the driver. My
car was rated 24/30 so I figure getting 32/34 is good.

Which is offset by a luggage rack for $150.

Don't need it - dont' know if they come with it -- my car is pretty peppy.
Belle (MiataFun) -- Remember this is my ONLY car.
