A quick question for all you Miata gurus...

I've been trying to chase down a wierd rattle for a while (no, not in my
head), and finally narrowed it down to a loose hood. I've tried
readjusting those ruber stoppers, but they don't seem to help.

Any ideas?

Brian,
I had the same problem...Finally found it was the hood latch itself. The
mechanism on the car body (not saying that right I'm sure) not the hood
itself. It didn't seem loose, but I loosened the bolts anyway, made sure
the mechanism was centered, then tightened the bolts......result, rattle
gone!. I had put up with that for at least 3 months!! Drove me
nuts...hehehe....still am a tad! Just my 6 cents...... :)

Easy fix Brian... I did it to my 92 last month. Get a tube of black
silicon for a couple of bucks at your local discount auto or wherever you
go... "build up" the rubber bumpers about a quarter inch or so. Use a wet
finger to smooth the surface to satisfaction. Let it cure overnite by
leaving the hood ajar. The hood will then "smoosh" them to the proper
level....works good...lasts a long time!

Oh yeah! Two points, Cis! Exactly same experience that I had.
I would scribe marks around the bolts, then loosen them...that helps
to see just how much adjustment they would take.
I'd also hit the rubber stops with a spot of silicone, not
forgetting the rear hood seal as well.
OF COURSE we are all remembering NOT to slam our hoods, right? The
latch should be adjusted so that you can "click" the latch closed with
the firm push of the flat of your hand.

Absolutely Akira!!! I hold my hood about 4 to 6 inches up and then let it
drop on it's own. It makes a nice "click" as it shuts...works every
time... :).Smoooooth..

I have the same problem. went to Pep Boys and bought a package of
round velcro patches and placed them on the stoppers. Problem gone.
Not elegant...but cheap.
