I keep hearing about his untimely death. Accident? Victim of crime? Anyone
know the deal?

I hadn't heard about Dick Cepek! Are you sure you aren't thinking about
Mickey Thompson? Mickey and his wife were murdered a couple of years ago at
their home in the ultra-exclusive Los Angeles community of Bradbury by
person or persons unknown- suspicion fell on a blonde man who was seen
fleeing the area on a bicycle. In case you want to visit his grave (for the
morbidly curious big tire enthusiast):

me=Thompson

Since the Thompson company (obviously no longer directed by poor Mickey)
just bought the Cepek company in June 2000, maybe the story has gotten a
little twisted. By the way, the Bradbury community is so exclusive, very
few people in Los Angeles know where it is or that it even exists. The
whole city is gated, and all roads are privately owned.

This is a long story, and I don't have all the details. I know R.
Thomas Cepek, who is Dick Cepek's son. Dick died on 3/1/83. RTC ran
the Dick Cepek company for about 40 years (that's a long time, too!)
and as I suspect you know, recently sold the company to Mickey
Thompson (which is owned by Mr. Lee McManus), with the exception of
some of the Hummer stuff which he still has.

RTC does not go by the name 'Dick Cepek', though there are many who
confuse him with his father.
