Where is the electric fan thermostat located on a '98 Cherokee with the
4.0? The A/C pressure switch does an override but the regular
thermostat doesn't seem to be kicking in properly.

I don't have the manual handy, but you will probably find it on the driver's
side of the radiator about 2/3 of the way down. It is just a thermal
switch with 2 wires coming off. To test, turn the ignition on and watch
the fan (careful, those nylon blades are SHARP!) as you short/open the two
pins in the connector. With a/c, the a/c switch and the radiator switch
are combined by a diode arrangement to trigger a relay which runs the fan
so you have eliminated everything except the steering diode module and the
thermal switch so if manually shorting the switch poles works you have to
suspect the switch. That does not normally close to something above normal
operating temp - the number 210F comes to mind - so you may just not have
gotten hot enough yet.
