Jeep 2000 Grand Cherokee. Bought Michelin Cross Terrain tires (245/70/16)
three years ago, and put 74,000 miles on them. Now, I can't find these
same tires anywhere. Not at Sears/ Walmart/ Sam's Club/ Sun Tire/ etc, and
many online outlets.

I liked these tires because they were very **quiet** and seemed to have
decent traction. I do "some" driving in snow, but not a lot, but that does
matter do me.

Based on your own actual experience, can any of you recommend the closest
**Michelin** replacement ? Again, I got 74K out of these tires, and they
were the quietest tires that I have ever had, so I am very inclined to stay
with Michelin.

Comments please, on similar, **Michelin** tires ??

Thank You !!

James

Try the M+S/2, (see Tire Rack adverts) it has a new tread design that is
quite different from the M+S you can get at Sears, etc.

I moved from the older M+S (after 7+ years of use) to the LTX AT/2 but
those may be a bit too open treaded for you.

Whoops, just read your post more closely so recommending BFG AT Ko's doesn't
fit but I recently ran into another of those "helpful" nanny rules at a
couple of chain places: They have instituted a a "policy" of not replacing
one or even two tires on the same axle if the tread wear on the remaining
tires is shows the remaining tread to be less more than 3/32 less than the
new tires on a 4wd vehicle. Try convincing the numbnuts there that this is
not an issue on a command track (part-time) 4wd with an open diff,
especially if you are replacing both tires on one axle. What a bunch of
dummies! This might matter on a locked axle or, to a minor degree if only
one tire is to be changed! When pressed, the manager allowed as how the
only solution he had was refund the purchase price of ALL 4 TIRES and sell
you a full set if the tires were replaceable under their warranty! Talk
about lack of understanding of the issue.

Darn, I have Michelin cross terrain on my 01 grand that I may need to
replace soon. As you I really like them...but I have 17 inch and the
17 inch sizes are much more expensive than the 16 inch to replace for
some reason. So one positive is that you are lucky to have 16 inch
wheels. Larry

Some claim the Latitude Tour is the Michelin recommended replacement.
http://www.michelinman.com/tires/suv-crossover/latitude-tour/
or the Tour HP
http://www.michelinman.com/tires/suv-crossover/latitude-tour-hp/
The MS/2 also has the silica tread enhancer, and if it lasts anything
like its predecessor, you Jeep may wear out first:

Got 80K on my last set of LTX M/S on a 98 ZJ Would've gotten more but
someone who is related to me by marriage was not kind to the sidewalls.
Replaced with same.

I loved my old Mich LTX M/S except for when they got onto wet grass.
Thought I was running slicks. :O

Right now the ZJ has Firestone destination A/T tires and so far I'm
quite happy with on and off-road performance. Nice and quiet on the
highway, decent grip in the corners, and so far I haven't gotten stuck.
