CRV is a feminine vehicle

Some vehicles have a gender factor. My impression of the new CRV is
that it appeals most strongly to women. As a guy, I can't even get
serious about wanting to own one because it has such a feminine feel or
aura. Frankly, I think men look out of place in a CRV. Not the least
bit macho. Look at that shift lever. Would any man take that design
seriously? The Rav4 has a more universal appeal, and the full size
SUV's are unquestionably more suitable for men. Certain vehicles
definitely have a fem factor appeal, with far greater ownership by
women. I read once that the VW Cabriolet (convert) has buyer record of
80% women, topping the list of chick vehicles. The CRV can't be far
behind. Cute, indeed, but the "C" (in CRV) really must stand for Chick.

You should probably prepare yourself for a good tongue lashing from this
newsgroup. Im not agreeing or disagreeing with you, as there are many other
demographic factors you have not taken into consideration. Have fun reading
your flame-mail.

Tongue lashing? Perhaps, but my oservation is an honest one, albeit not
necesarily politically correct. PC is inherently less than openly
honest. The TRUTH is that some vehicles (and vehicle colors) allign
with gals. Others appeal more to the guys. The correlation is not
imaginary. Nor is it an exact science. TK

The first generation CRV did appeal to women more, but one of Honda's goals
with the second generation was to appeal more to men. I don't know if they
accomplished that or not. I personally don't feel out of place or less
masculine in my CRV.

I try to be as rational as possible when selecting a vehicle. I have never
understood genderizing cars. My sister-in-law has a Ford Explorer because
she has "too much self respect to drive a mini-van". I don't get it. I have
a 94 Accord sedan and my wife has a wagon. I use the wagon whenever I need
to carry large objects, otherwise I see no difference between the two.
People have remarked that my car is sporty and the wagon is kind of dull. If
I'm looking forward, I don't know which one I'm driving except for the
color?

The one thing I do notice is that the VW Cabriolet is by far the most gender
biased car on the planet. I think there was even a sitcom that poked fun at
a male character who bought one. He eventually had to sell it because of all
the pressure and gender self doubt :)

Now I'm really really really confused. I used to own a VW Cabrio...but then
again I'm also a gay male. So was this car my feminine side? But I got rid of
that, and leased a Ford Explorer...so was that my masculine side? Even worse
now is the lease on that car is up in a few months, and I really like the 02
CRV. But, according to this post it's a girls car!

I'M SO CONFUSED!!!!!!

I guess that this is an issue for some people. I helped a woman friend shopping
for a CRV or RAV a couple years ago and drove both. (The were both G1.) The CRV
was superior in every way except for the non-availability of a factory sun roof.
With auto transmissions the CRV was slow but the RAV was actually dangerous IMO.
However, it never even occurred to me that one was more masculine than the
other. If one had been pink with a lace interior, I guess I might have
objected. As it was, I don't think either of us even commented on the styling.
It just wasn't an issue. In the end, she chose the better value of the Honda
over the sunroof in the RAV and bought a CRV with a manual transmission. The
fact that she was driving an Accord with 243,000 miles on it (purchased new) was
also an influence.

I believe that the CRV can't be gender appealing in any way. In my point of
view the design is way out of style, boxy and curvy and the curves are in
the wrong places and the boxy part is also in the worng place... regardless!
I'm not saying it's a bad car, I actually believe that it has proved itself
quiet well in its market and I wouldn't mind driving one, but again, we
should not look at the CRV for its looks but for its ability and reliability
after all it's a honda.

As for the vw cabriolet well... I think the stock model is definitely for
women, but I wouldn't mind driving one with an aftermarket body kit and
wheels that will make it look sharper and more agressive!

Don't you know that most men who drive SUVs are gay? It's a well documented

As a man (not a guy) I am secure enough in my masculinity that I don't
need to worry about whether "guys" think my choice in vehicles is
"feminine".

Women outnumber men as SUV owners by about 2 to 1. This applies to ALL
SUVs, not CRVs in particular.

SUVs are "chick vehicles". You'd better just buy a truck. :)

No argument from me, it's strange how that happens. How is it that the original
VW bug is fine for both genders, but in the new beetle guys look out of place?
My wife loves her CR-V, and so do I...but I feel a little out of place driving
it.

My Summer everyday car is an aqua colored '93 Geo Metro convertible. Do
you thik I take any flak from my truck driving male friends? You betcha
I do!!! I'm a middle aged straight male, and even my son rubs it in
occasionally. If the car wasn't so much fun I'd probably listen. I
actually laugh at the jokes & ribbing I get,and it never ticks me off,
but I DO understand the nature of the (usually) light hearted criticism.
I'm kind of a "motorhead"guy who would really like to drive a different
vehicle every week. TK

You have it all wrong. The so called manly vehicles like full size SUVs
and the wannabes like the RAV4 are expressly designed for men with small
dicks - it acts as a kinda substitute for having such a small appendage.
Ya see these guys with trucks for no good reason - small testicles too...
miniscule. Real men (and real women too) drive *cars* with manual shift
transmissions - it's as simple as that.:-[]

Could be worse. I knew a guy who got a bright pink Geo Storm as a

Thank God! This is wonderful! It means that I can continue be a gay male, buy

It takes a confident man to drive one of those...

When I was in college, the concern was if the car was running, not the
body style or color.

Not at all, lesbians actually drive Subaru station wagons or old Ford pickups.
Keep in mind that different SUVs may connote different levels of gayness.

CRV/RAV: I'm trying to pass for straight.
Xterra/Rodeo/4-Runner: OK, I'm gay but I don't make a big deal about it.
Explorer/Cherokee/old Blazer: Out and proud.
Tahoe/Trail Blazer/Expedition: Think Truman Capote.
Suburban/Excursion: Liberace meets Boy George.

(Note to the humor impaired: this is a joke.)
