Need info on 86 CRX wheel bolt pattern... need a set of junkyard wheels
for my CRX-Si... what OTHER Hondas use same bolt pattern, and what is
it? Or what OTHER cars of ANY make use same size/pattern? Thanks... Bob

The bolt pattern is 4 on a 100 mm circle. Any Civic rim, from 1984 to
present (I'm not sure about the earlier ones), will fit. Of course
you'll want to make sure that the rim clears your brakes!

Be very careful about trying to fit another maker's rims to your Honda,
however! They may have the same bolt pattern, (ex. Mazda 4-bolt rims)
but they are unlikely to be hub-centric (ie: the wheel's centre bore is
either too small or too large) or have the proper offset.

A good example of a bad choice is Honda "enthusiasts" who have put VW
rims on their Hondas. Same bolt pattern but *wrong* size centre
bore...it's too large. The result is a rim which is being centred on
the hub only by its wheel nuts and studs. This leads to up and down
"run out", particularly noticeable at higher speeds as a general
roughness and vibration.

If you're aware of the potential pitfalls, there are workarounds. For
example, I have a Honda Civic with Mazda Precidia rims on it. The
offset and bolt pattern were the same as the O.E. Honda rims, I just had
a machine shop *open up* the bore 2mm for them to fit snugly and
properly on my Honda's hubs. They look sharp. :)

Hey, I too have a CRX Si (1987) and I am not a fan of the odd alloy
wheels with the four odd holes in them. I'd like something affordable
that doesn't cost a fortune. The other day I saw a CRX of similar vintage
sporting BMW wheels. I couldn't catch up with the owner to ask him if
they were an easy fit. Anyone know if they are a simple bolt-on?

I had a '89 Civic SI with Prelude cast wheels. Check with replacement wheel
manufacturers for cross references. I'm 99% sure that my Toyota Paseo had the
same wheels as the Civic according to the catalog when I bought aftermarket
wheels for it.

Eric mentions that VW wheels are not good on Honda's (esp. CRX's) - this
is patently false. The wheel center is only overbored by 1 mm (57mm vs.
56mm), so AT MOST it could be .5mm off. I use my 84 GTI Rabbit wheels
(14x6) on my 89 CRX si for the whole summer with no problems, even up to
115 mph. I run them constantly at 90+ mph for hours with no shakes, etc.
In reality, these are great wheels, because the are an inch wider and
also have a slightly smaller offset (38 mm) so the provide a slightly
wider track for the car (stance). Result: Better, more stable handling,
plus they look great! Easy to find for about $100-150 a set used, too.

Good luck,
