I'm looking to purchase either a 92-95 Civic OR a 96-97 Tercel...any
opinions?

Tercel is a piece of junk and it looks ugly. Civic usually has higher
resale value.
Get either a EX couple or a Si Hatch for best value. I had a used 95 EX
and I love it.

I have owned both cars. Get the Civic.

I own a 98 CIvic and my girlfriend had a 95 Tercel (totaled now).

My Civic had way more options, but I'd take either one. She put 60k
miles on it within 2-3 years. Never had any problems, except a couple
of flats :) The Tercel could go forever on one tank of gas!!

My friend had an 84 with 100k+ miles on it. Had to replace the water
pump in the 1 1/2 he owned it. But, no problems other than that.

Both are reliable cars.

I'd say the Tercel is of better value!

The Civic is going to be better because it cost thousands more. I've
rode in both many times and they're both reliable!

I have had a couple of Hondas and bought a 1992 Tercel new as a base
commuter car. Any of the Hondas will seem smoother and more refined than
the Tercel, which drives basically like a small bus. The Tercel feels
cheap, but it costs very little, and I now have 90,000+ miles on the
Tercel and it has NEVER been to the shop, not even for a tuneup!

Either car will get you there and will be way more reliable than average,
but the Hondas will be much more pleasant along the way. If the costs are
close nowadays, get the Honda. If the Tercel is much cheaper and you just
need a commuter car, than the Tercel is hard to beat for cheap, solid,
yeoman-like transportation.

Tercal has a better reliability but doesn't look as good as the Civic
As for the Civic, it looks better then the Tercel but not as reliable.

I'm betting the responses might be a little different in a Toyota
newsgroup...

I'm sure of that. That new chrome grille on the Camry... I mean how radical
is that. (Note: sarcasm)

Both cars are pretty chinsy, as far as materials go etc. The Civic is
definitely more fun, but the Tercel will likely out last it...Well, at least
if you live in a snow belt it will likely out last the Honda. Also, my
experience is that Toyota's are more reliable than Honda's. I don't remember
the last Toyota I saw broken at the side of the road, but Honda's are all over
the place at the side of the road. In fact, last Friday, I saw a current
generation Civic hooked up to a tow truck. No, it wasn't in an accident, and
no I doubt it was parked illegally, as there was a person in the passenger
seat of the tow truck, which I think would be safe to assume was the poor
owner of the Honda. By the way, the Civic had amber turn signals. Does that
mean that it was a pre 98? I think it was mentioned that they downgraded to
red signals in 98?!? Is this true? Even still, a 96 or 97 Civic being
towed?!?!? Haven't seen a 96 or 97 VW being towed around here. And
DEFINATELY haven't seen a 96 or 97 Toyota ANYTHING being towed. Any Toyota I
see being towed, which by the way is few and far between, has been at least
8-10 years old.

Originals here. I own a Toyota tercel 97 and let me tell you I run the streets in my city! You might of seen some basic stock ones, but you have not seen the Original's modifications. You should come through the 626 area bro.

I say u should get a tercel and they're reliable, gas saver
