Does the 2002 Odyssey come with "break-in" oil that is not supposed to be changed for a specific
length of time (or mileage) or does it come with regular "off-the-shelf" oil that I can change as I
see fit??
If it does come with "break-in" oil, how long should it be left in??
I didn't think there were any manufacturers that were still doing the "break-in" oil thing, but then
again, I didn't think there were any manufacturers that hadn't figured out how to turn off the
headlights when I turn off the ignition.
Thanx for your help,
Keith
Personally, I'd start using Synthetic after 20,000km... only because most
cars are well run-in at 20,000km , with better performance figures done at
20,000km of say the same car tested at 1000km, 5000km or 10000km.

There's plenty of reasons why one would need to have the lights on when the
car is turned off.
1. To test the lights
2. To test the strength of the battery by '1'.
3. To test the light's mechanism if it's a flip light.
4. After turning off car.. you notice something in the dark.. do U want to
crank the car just to use the lights??
etc....etc...etc.... I think you get my drift by now? :)

From the Honda web site...

Why should I wait to change the oil the first time?
Your Honda engine was delivered with an oil that is specially
formulated for new engines that have not yet developed their "natural"
wear patterns and may contain minute particles from the manufacturing
process.
American Honda strongly recommends this special oil be left in the
engine long enough for these wear patterns to develop, usually until
the first maintenance interval specified in your Owner's Manual, based
on your specific driving conditions.

Due to USENET spamming, I had to modify
my reply to email address.
The owners manual states to leave original oil in until first
scheduled oil change. at least thats what it says in my 2002 accord .
now when is mobil 1 going to have a 5-20w oil?

just go with the 5w30... no biggie. not like youre switching to 20w50 or
pancake syrup. the 5w will flow juuuuust fine.
What syn oil would you use in a 2002 Ody (requiring 5w-20)?
