Given that I live in a dry climate (Colorado)
and the thing ought to dry quickly, should I really worry
about this? Anybody had their paint discolored?

Believe them. If the bra dries on the car, your paint WILL cloud. I
ignored this to the point where even a few green leaves got under the
bra (the hood nose part) and made PERMANENT imprints of green spots.
When I sold that 89 Integra, I didn't take the bra off because the
buyer didn't ask me to! ;-) But, believe the literature, it screws
the paint something royal. I almost think the hood is better with a
few nicks than to worry about removing the stupid bra every time it
rains or the car is washed. I never bought one for my 93 Integra and
it faired pretty well over 4 years.

For best care, take the bra off to completely dry, especially in the
hot summer sun (say after a quick afternoon thundershower)
Good bra maintentence, good wax on the car, and a weekly breather
even in good weather will protect both the car's paint and your
bra for years.

I have experience with a full mask on a 1974 Volkswagen Beetle, though I am
now a 94 Civic owner (with no bra or mask).
After nearly three years with a bra on the car, I found that the red paint
under the bra was a little clouded, but stellar in comparison to the rest
of the paint.
I would ensure that the paint on the remainder of the car not fade or
otherwise lose its luster or quality. Keep it protected.
But yes, remove the bra, for the sake of the bra and of the car. Leaving it
on over time will help create rust or weaken the paint under the mask.

-Don't get dirt/grit between bra and paint
-Wax the car real well under the bra
-Be careful with the tie down straps (they can tear up the paint)

There is NO WAY to keep a bra from doing damage to your paint!! You
can not keep all dust and grit from finding its way under it. Many people
like the look of a bra on their car and are willing to put up with the
damage. Some colors don't show the abrasion as badly as others. I have
black and I made ONE trip of 300 miles and I have never gotten all of the
marks off my car. Yes, I did have it installed properly! One of the
problems is Clear Coat. Great stuff, but just a little abrasion and a
white haze will be with you forever. It really shows on black. I have
even tried Clear Coat Rubbing Compound. That got most of it out. I gave
the bra away!
DON'T DO IT ! !

Actually Dave, to clarify an earlier post of mine, you only really
have to worry about the bra pieces that touch paint. I left the piece
that touched the plastic bumper on all the time without damage. The
piece that covered the nose of the hood was the place where damage
took place and I rarely took it off except to wash/wax the car. You
should be OK with your bra as long as you deal with the hood piece. I
didn't and it screwed up the paint.
The fact that it is sensitive to chipping from thrown up road
debris keeps me from tailgating! How ingenious!

I disagree. Theres many ways to help protect your paint from being
damaged. First it's a snap to remove the hood part of the bra.. it just
slides off! So every time you wash the car take it off!
Second.. wax the area liberally! This will create a barrier between the
bra and paint, and will help prevent scratches.
Third.. why not put that protective clear plastic adhesive stuff (i've
heard some people use to prevent scratches on the nose of the car),
underneath the bra?
Fourth.. clean under the bra often. and don't forget to clean the
underside of the bra cause dirt can get trapped in the cotton-like
underside.
