1997 Saturn SC2
15,000 miles and going strong

Someone who buys an overpriced and glorified GM product is criticizing
someone!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Maybe he likes his Honda dealer better and likes the H on the hood. Or
maybe he got a better deal on it. Who cares why he bought it. Here's a
better question: why do people pay $19,825(full option) for a low
powered (124hp), noisy, unrefined, and crappy car like Saturn when you can
get an Acura Integra for less?
I bought a Passport because I got a better deal on it, and as someone else
replied I wanted the H on my hood. Although I will admit the color choice
on the Izuzus appears to be better. Honda gave me the choice of Red,
Grey, Grey or White in the LX, for 3K more I could get Hunter Green or
Black, but is a different paint job and ABS on all 4wheels (instead of 2)
worth it? I didn't think so, although I do realize there are others who
would disagree.
To Newfood97 - I didn't think z_byrrddj was trying to bash anyone, he was
after all just asking a question. Although I do have to admit if the
price was the same I'd go with the Acura, and I would have bought a used
Legend instead of the Passport if it had come in 4WD. Alas my driveway
does not allow 2WD cars to leave it in the winter, it lets them in but
they aren't able to get out until spring.

A few reasons I can think of:
1) Insurance is much lower on the Saturn 2) The Satun buying experience
3) The knowledge (until recently) that no one paid less for the car than
you.
Except for #1, it is hard to believe that anyone would buy an SC2 or an
SL2 versus the competition, unless they don't understand that the
competition is heavily discounted from the MSRP.
As one of Ronald Reagan's people said (when they tried to get rid of the
CPSC) 'Imperfect products should be available because consumers have
different preferences for defect avoidance.'
Well, I'm proud to say I've saved many people from making the ultimate
mistake.

I guess I am in a wierd postion. I just bought a 93' Integra after
looking at a Saturn. I like Saturn, and I like Acura. But the local
Honda Dealers and Acura Dealers were about stuck up as Hell.
So guess where I got my Acura? You guessed it, on the Saturn Used Car
Lot. I got a good deal on a low mileage car. And crack on Saturns all
you want, but they had 93' SC2 and it was $600 more than the 93'
Acura and the Acura had 50K on it and the Saturn had 70k. Both were
outfitted the same. So the first round went to the Saturn for holding
its Value more so than the Acura. In 93' BTW The Acura was about a
little over a $1000 more than the Saturn, I checked it out. But the
Acura won also because it was least expensive.
I test drove both, Both were loudish, but I like to hear my car
somewhat, I think the Acura was a little quiter though. But I have to
replace the damn timing belt in 30k and that will never have had to
happen if I bought the Saturn (Savings of $400 more BTW). So the
Saturn won again.
Performance was about on par with each other. Power ws about equal,
straight line performance was not much noticalby different. Handling
though in the Integra was noticably better than the the SC2. And
Handling means more in traffic than speed. So the Acura won easily.
Exterior looks were considered, I liked both, but I liked the wider
stance of the Acura and disliked the tall stance of the Saturn.
So the Acura won, but only by a little. Now if I had been looking at a
1997 SC2 the Saturn would have one.
Overall I liked both, it was the interior that really won me over. I
am 6'-2" and I felt more comfortable in the Acura. Much more
comforatble, so the Acura won.
So with all things considered both are good cars, both were fast, both
were about the same noise level, both has pluses and minuses. I really
liked both a lot. And to be honest really was intending to buy the
Saturn. But the Acura won me over.
Of all the things I liked most, was the dealership and the way I was
treated. At the Saturn dealer I felt it was my call (Which it was) and
were helpful but not pushy. They also didnt get irritated that I test
drove the two cars 3 seperate times over three days. The Honda/Acura
Dealer acted like I was a bother and he was doing me a favor by
showing me his cars. This is why Saturn dealers are given such a good
record and pepole like dealing with them.
When I buy my next car, I will be buying a Saturn or a whatever from
the Used Lot. But I will be buying it at my local Saturn dealer.
