I am looking for some advice/opinions on audio upgrades for my '95
Integra sedan.
I have some adequate 6x9's for the rear which I bought second hand.
I am more concerned with some quality speakers for the front. I do not
intend on adding any amps or subs or CD changers. I may upgrade the
head unit though.

I'm looking to spend $125-$180 for front speakers. I have been to a few
shops and each has their own preference, which of course is better than
the rest, of speakers.

These are the speakers which have been suggested so far:

Boston Acoustics - RX6 model- @ $180 Canadian.
Sony -- EX series ? @ $150 Canadian
Kicker -- I think it was a 600 model? - @ $150

I am leaning towards the Boston Acoustics right now. I know there are
premium speakers out there like MB Quartz etc. I do not want to spend
that much on the speakers.

I am also considering either an Alpine CDM 7833 head unit or the
Pioneer DEH36. They both are single CD units and are priced at about
$300-$350 Canadian. Right now I am favoring the Alpine.

Any comments or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My choice out of what you listed would be the Boston's & the Alpine head.

I agree. I don't know about the Canadian market, but in the US, the
only Pioneers that are worth while any more are the Premiere models.
The basic models don't seem like they're built to last. Alpine decks
are well made and the controls are much easier to use while driving than
any Pioneer I've tried out. FWIW, I've had my Kenwood "Xcelon" CD
player for almost a year without a problem (good thing since I never buy
extended warranties) and have been happy with it's performance and ease
of use. Sony *ES* is the quality line, while *EX* is the "express
series," (produced at a lower cost and sold in discount and superstores)
which is best avoided. I don't have experience with Kicker, but I just
bought some Boston CX6's for the back of my Accord and like them so much
that I've decided to swap them to the front and put the inherited JBL's
in back later this week.

Get a Clarion or Kenwood head. Alpine not what they used to be and Pioneer
never was!

Oh, I disagree. I have an Alpine 7829 and man do I ever like it.
The controls are incredibly easy to use, and it performs.

I also agree my Alpine 7525 with the 4370 remote is better then any head
unit I can find. If you can find one check it out "very nice"

While Alpine still makes a very good product, it definitely is not what it
used to be. I just replaced the factory Alpine built unit in my 88 Teg with
a new Alpine 7554. It feels like a toy compared to the old one which had a
solid aluminum heat sink at the rear and a robust sound. The new one feels
and sounds much less robust.

But it has the rotary knob as to buttons for volume which I prefer. Go with
Alpine. You may find something better, you will definitely find something
worse.
