WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS A BETTER SPORTS CAR? ' 88 -' 91
I LIKE THE QUICKNESS OF THE CRX 0-60 BUT FEEL THE HANDLING OF THE PRELUDE
IS FAR BETTER THEN THAT OF THE CRX, I'VE OWNED TWO CRX'S AND TWO PRELUDES.
THE PRELUDE SEEMS SMOOTHER AND MORE REFINED,

WHATS YOUR OPIONION????

I like my onions cooked. Sometimes lightly sprinkled with salt and pepper in
olive oil. But that's just me.

This is very unfair comparison. The Prelude si is a much better car! It's
only bad point over the crx is that it cost's more. It's got a 10+ mph
higher top speed over the crx, and can out handle a crx si on any track!
This is not even a close one.

Here is what happens two crx's when there driven too fast!

I have to disagree. I my wife and I have a 91 CRX DX and a 91 Prelude Si.
THey are both classes as E stock in SCCA autocross classing. The 91 CRX Si
is classed as D-stock which is a faster class than E-stock. So far my DX
has been faster on the autocross track than our Si Prelude. I agree that
the Prelude is more refined however.

Ummm...
Yeah, right.
Do you know of any Preludes that can pull 1.2G with $1200 worth of
mods???
Maybe, just maybe, the Prelude can outhandle the CRX in STOCK form, but
who keeps their cars stock?????

As for the top speed, when was the last time you saw anything higher
than 120 mph????

Ken,

I can prove that my stock CRX DX outhandles a stock 91 Prelude Si on an
autocross course. I still, however, love how the Prelude feels.
Generally, I think the CRX's lower weight and shorter wheelbase allows it
to out-autocross the Prelude.

What's the purpose of this thread?
Are you trying to open up a kettle of fish?

Well., I love the CRX, and I love the Prelude, but it seems obvious to me
that the Prelude is more refined. The price would indicate that more time
and effort has been put into the prelude.

Hmmm. WEll both cars accellerate at about the same pace. It is a debate on
which engine you like. The torque and flat top end of a DOHC, or no torque
and the SOHC. Both cars accellerate about the same. Last time i raced the
88crx si (w/mods) I took it by a car legnth or two.

The prelude is more refined, and has MANY MORE maintence problems. Tires on
the 4ws model don't last. The crx can't handle. The wheelbase thing isn't
fun....

Of course...you can just add a strut bar or two to the crx and make it
handle.

And the crx can take many engines....

SOHC VTEC out of the civic bolts right in if you blow her.

Top end on the crx is about 125 ish

Prelude is 122

Those speeds confirmed.

:)

Just a correction, but you are full of shit.
The Preludes do not come anywhere NEAR 140.

Right at 140 actually (the car will hit the limiter if you go much
further. However, this discussion was about the 88-91 Preludes if anyone
cares to check old posts. There is certainly no way that the old Prelude
with it's 140 hp motor will do 140 mph, certainly not with U.S. gearing.

Check out the specs! Road and Track tested this car and top speed is 143
mph! Hell, the Accord V6 top speed is 131 mph!

Even my '85 Prelude can hit 120mph... vtec 'ludes top
end stock at about 140mph (as is published in almost
all car mags)

Agreed. I've done about 120 mph in my '88 Prelude Si. Car & Driver's
Annual Issue lists the top speed of the Prelude SH at 140 mph. But again,
the question was about '88 - '91 Preludes; don't know the top speed for
those.

It's electronically limited at 131 though...but I'm not sure how much over
that it can go (after all, it is a 4-door family sedan with 3300 Lbs to lug
around).
