I received a pair of Tokico shocks from Lightning Motorsports today. I was
surprised to find they were made in China instead of Japan. There's nothing
wrong with that--I was just surprised.

Many Japanese companies now get much of their stuff done in China and
Korea, for the same reason many American companies do: Price.

It is more expensive for a Japanese corporation to keep a Japanese
worker employed in Japan than it is to employ an American worker in
America. And both are four to six times as expensive as a Chinese worker
in China.

With proper specification and quality control, the Chinese can produce
high-quality work. Absent that, you get the usual Chinese shit, such as
aftermarket body parts.
