I have a 1998 Honda Accord EX V6 Coupe and since new I have only used regular
87 octane fuel and I am averaging 28.2 mpg. The owners manual states that fuel
with a minimum octane level of 86 is acceptable.
"Unleaded gasoline, pump octane number of 86 or higher".
I don't know about your area, but around here, "regular" gas has an octane
rating of 87. Using gas with a higher octane rating is simply a waste of
money, as the engine was designed to run on 86 octane as stated by Honda.
If you can't trust the people who designed your car from scratch, why trust
anyone else?
Sandro.
