I am looking at a 1990/1991 honda crx si (canadian model) and I wanted to
know which model year has the 4 wheel disc brakes. I was told that the 1990
special edition had 4 wheel discs while the 1991 model year had it standard
on the Si versions. What are the real noticable differences between the
1988 - 1991 CRX's? I've looked on several crx sites but they've been vague
at best not giving the full breakdown of the "real diffs" between each model
year.

The CRX's for sale are all Si models and none of them are the Si special
editions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

the only real differences that i've noticed on the 91 CRX Si models
are: sunroof, rear wiper, "sawblade" allow wheels, 4 color choices
(red, black, yellow, white), and dual tip exhaust. i'm not 100%
positive, but i think previous year Si models had single tip. and i've
never seen or heard of "special edition" models. not here in the
states, at least. you can go to Carpoint or Edmunds to see the tech
specs for each year.

sidenote: you can convert the rear drums to disc. just find the parts
and a competent mech to do the job.

As a former '91 CRX Special Editon owner, I can say you are looking at a car
that is an absolute blast! 4-wheel discs were standard on Si's in '90 &
'91. The only ther real differences from '88-'91 were that '88 Si's were
105hp and '89-'91's were 108hp; and the front and rear fascias were updated
in '90. As for the Special Edition, it was only available in Canada in '91
and I believe only 250 were produced. It was silver with body coloured rub
strips, mirrors, & rear spoiler. Inside was a leather wrapped wheel &
standard CD player (rare in '91). Hardware-wise it was no different from a
regular Si. I traded mine in on a '99 SiR a year ago and got $9000 for it
with 130K kms. Great resale. Watch out for rattling hatches, and rust in
the doors and around the wheel wells. Make sure the timing belt has been
done every 100K kms. Good luck & have fun.

Japanese Domestic market
same as above w/ addition of two models

It should be noted that these engines can be transplanted into the CRX, i
have a ZC motor from japan,

see http:\\hybrid.honda-perf.org

the main differences between model years was as follows,

88 model years had different # of splines on thier trannies then the 89 -91
models. they also had the seatbelts mounted to the chassie, rather then the
door.

88, 89 models had square dash cosoles, 90-91 had rounded, si models for
late 89 -91 had 4 wheel disk brakes standard, as well as sway bars and
bigger rims,

SI = sport injected, came w/ sunroof, electric, power ammenities, alot of
extra options, Multi port fuel injected.

DX = 1.5 L 4 cyl came with 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual, run of the mill

Also stronger side impact beams (at least on the NA models) on the 90-91
models.
