Do any of you 1999 3.2 TL owners hear a rather loud "clunk" when shifting
out of DRIVE into PARK after you have stopped and are parking the car? I do
this rather fast with little noise, but my wife carefully, slowly makes this
shift and the TL makes an alarming "clunk". Other than this, the
transmission is smooth as silk.

Thanks for any replies!

I believe all the 99 TL's and the 98-99 Accord V6's do it.

I think your right, I have a 99 Accord Coupe with the V6, and my
transmission makes the same clunk noise ... what is it? Does it need to be
looked at ?

My mom has a TL and I recall her saying something about that noise. You are
not the only one. I told her to ask the dealership next time she is there.

yep......its a common fault on the Accord/TL series. My 98 EX-V6 does it
too.

Just to add my two cents....yes, our '99 TL does it also.

I believe that the "clunk" sound that you hear is the selinoid that locks
the shift lever into park. This lock will not let you shift out of park
unless the brake pedal is depressed. Does teh noise appear to be coming
from the engine compartment or from inside the center dash console? If
it's fron teh console (right above the shift lever) then I would think the
selinoid is causing the noise and it is perfectly normal.

Wherever the source is coming from.......I wouldn't call a clunking
transmission "normal"......especially given the upscale class the TL
competes with. Stuff like this is where the TL falters among the upper
class competition and the owner is reminded of why the TL has such an
attractive list price.

depends on how loud this "clunk" is.. if it's a very light "tick" then it
is perfectly normal. if it's the loudness of someone smacking the tranny
with a ball peen hammer, then that's definitely not normal.. The original
poster didn't say how loud the noise is and perhaps he's just curiosu as
to what might make this noise.

My experience would describe it as a noticeable "clunk". If you read the
other posts, they don't talk about "ticking" they are talking about
"clunking". Its very noticeable.
