I have a 2000 Mustang V6 Automatic that I clocked at 8.00+/- seconds 0-60 when
I first bought it, then took off the silencer and removed MAF Air post then
after driving it about 5 miles clocked it at 7.35, then after driving about 50
miles with the MAF post and silencer gone I am seeing 8.9 sec 0-60 times (tried
several runs, that was also with a tiny bit of tire squeal so I know I was
pressing the gas all the way), did I mess something up?, does anyone have a
2000 V6 Automatic that they have 0-60 times for? I read one review of a 99 V6
manual that said 7.00 seconds.

Also, when I rev it up in neutral to about 4k rpm and then let off the gas I
hear this poping noise coming from my engine/exhaust, I have to have the window
down to here it, the noise is not constant and has no pattern (does not sound
like put.put.put but more like put.....put.put...put) is this normal?
How do you know when your engine is pinging? and how do you know when you are
detonating?
Thanks alot to anyone who can help.

Some things to consider compared to whichever car was tested in the magazines.
Amount of fuel in tank, driver's weight, driving ability/skills,
weather/temperature, elevation from sea level, treadwear on tires/type of tires
used, etc., etc.. If both cars are fairly new with the same exact drivetrain
then there should be little or no difference in the cars performance in stock
form. Maybe cutting post from the air meter was detrimental to your car's
performance but look at the other factors first before assuming that cutting
the post is the cause of slowing the car down a bit.
