I am looking for pros and cons on the 96 Mustang Convertible. I am
considering this purchase and would like any advise.

Thanks

I have a 5-sp, 95 GT convertible and love it. Originally, it was just
going to be a third "weekend" car. As things have turned out though, it
is now my daily driver. With the exception of the engine, transmission,
front suspension and rear tail light facia, the 95's are carbon copies of
the 96's. Basically, I wanted a convertible that was fast, inexpensive
(relatively speaking), cheap to maintain (versus the European car I
owned!) and, most of all, FUN! The GT convertible fits this description
perfectly. I also considered a 6-sp, Camaro Z-28 convertible (wickedly
fast, BTW), but the seating position was sooooo low, that I found it
uncomfortable. You are really sitting on the floor of those cars. I
suppose some folks like that, but not me. Anyway, the GT convertible is
HIGHLY recommended. I live in Houston, Texas and my top stays down all
the time, unless it's raining (...and a hard rain at that...), even on
98-degree days. Finally, I would get "at least" these options:

1) 5-speed
2) 17" Tire/Wheel Option
3) Mach 460 (you'll need plenty of volume when the top is down)
4) Leather seats (easier to clean since the top down convertible tends to
pick up dust)

Also, after you get the car, have a new set of 3.55 gears installed. This
is one of my next mods and I've been told that it will make the car feel
like it's got 500 hp. In fact, most folks I talk to rate it as one of the
best (seat-of-the-pants) "bangs for the buck".

Good luck,
Keith H.

I love my 94, which I bought used (a "program car" - read rental car).
Have had zero trouble with it in the last eighteen months. It is a 6
cyl. model, which is all the power I need for normal driving (I'm almost
50).

Incidentally, I live in Wisconsin, where the Summers are short and the
Winters are long, and I drive the car year 'round. It has a kick ass
heater.
