Tires for a 67 Mustang

I need a recommendation on tires for my 67 Mustang Convertible. I put on
P215's and they were too big (the front ones occasionally rub the wheel well
during a turn).

My 1967 owner's manual recommend a 6.95 x 14 - what the hell is that?

Is important - I live overseas I can't get good advice on this locally.

I run 205/70-14 tires on a the stock rims of a 66 Mustang. No rubbing
anywhere. The diameter matches the original size so the speedometer is
accurate.

My first question is what is the backspacing and size of the rim your
running. I'm assuming the tire is a 215/75/14?? If so, you should be
running a 215/70/14 so the side wall height will be decreased to the point
where it shouldn't rub. You want to have an overall tire diameter in the
25.5 inch range.
