Due to your public response and knowledge I have chosen not to build
that 351C for my 1965. Discouraged!!

How about a 302??? Can it be built to get 400HP practicably?? What
components would you choose?

thanks

Ben

If you're going to start with a fresh motor, you may as well
use a 351 windsor. It'll fit anywhere the 302 will and will likely
more or less bolt in. The SVO marine 351 puts out approximately
340hp out of the box and would likely be well over 400hp with
a mild supercharger (say 6psi). I suspect it would even get
decent gas mileage and would be usable for daily transport.

For a practial 400HP out of a 302, you'll need a blower, or nitrous, or
both.

While a Cleveland may not be the best bet for your '65, a 351W might.
And it'll make 400hp a lot easier than a 302 will.

That's right. Hey, Pink, don't get dicouraged about ANY Ford engine.
Build a 312 to 400 HP if you wanna. I still plan to put Mass Air SEFI on
a 392 Hemi. I have built a number of Clevelands and will build more I'm
sure. Can't stop luvin' ya, baaaybeee!

Still, in a 65/66 you have some real dimensional problems vis-a-vis the
GAWDERN SHOCKTOWERS!!!!

You can stroke a 302 to 367. Use some Aussie Cleveland 2V heads and a
hydralic roller cam from Crane and you could build it up to 400 hp or
close. Build it for torque. A 347 would be real nice, too. Or shoehorn
in a 351W and use one of the low buck stroker kits to get 370 to 400+
cubes. A 416 or 420 Windsor would push out 400+ HP no problem. And well
over 400 ft-lbs of car-shovin' torque, which is what REALLY counts on the
street. Go ahead, think big. You will need some cash, but the 351W
stroker using an offset ground 400 crank and 300 I6 rods isn't that
expensive. Look in Super Ford magazine for all the stroker companies ads.

Let us know what you decide and good luck!

Hi Ben,

I have seen adds from Edelbrock for heads, intake, carb, cam, valve train, etc.
It is their dyno built package for a 364 HP, 302 Ford. If you read through a
bunch of Mustang, Hot Rod, Kit Car, Ford Performance, etc magazines you will
find some dyno build ups for the 302. If you just put a bunch of parts together,
there is now way to guarantee that it will produce the power you are looking
for.

Maybe those are not necessary. I tried a combination on my Desktop Dyno and
this came out. I don't know how accurate it is but it should be close. It
has 451 horses at 6500 rpm and 390 ft/lb. of torque at 5500 rpm. I could
not include a copy of this print out. But I typed it up on Word. I will
attach this file if anyone has Word 7 check it out.
