Hello there,

I've got a chance to pick up a '87 mustang convertable completely rebuilt(or
so he says) for a very nice price. I do believe it is the cobra model but I
could be wrong. I currently own a 1994 explorer and I am not impressed with
the tranny problems hense my hesitation.

Can anyone give me any advice on what to look for in this car, ie. potential
problems. I myself am mechanically inclined so any help will do.

thanks in advance,

Well, there was no cobra in 87 first of all.

Yup, Buy a 67 Mustang. You'll never have to smog it, parts are cheap
and easy to come by, they're easy to work on, and they look 20 times
better than those crappy 80's mustangs.

I swear those 80's stangs should never have been given the Mustang
name. To this day I haven't seen one that I like, and I'll forever
call them what they really are...Capri's.

From the way it sounds it seems that you're always fixing yours instead of
making it a better car.

Crappy 80s Mustangs. You're stupid.

OK

This is a fact.

So are parts for Fox'es

OK now, so it's EASIER to find a 67 stang than it is to find a Fox stang?
LOL! I see a Fox stang on nearly every corner.

True, but so are Fox stangs.

Opinion. I prefer the Fox stangs actually

Capris? Nope. They are 1979 Fairmonts. I may like Fox stangs, but hey, I'll
admit what they are. Same way a 67 stang is just a Falcon is disguise.

I gotta agree with "I swear those 80's stangs should never have been given the

Mustang
name. To this day I haven't seen one that I like, and I'll forever
call them what they really are...Capri's." even though I bought one despite its
"little boy racer" looks, and still have it. It was still probably the best
bang for the buck at the time ... a time we had virtually no speed limit
enforcement where I lived. But wouldn't ya know it ... a new governor came
along and put an end to all that virtually unlimited speed about the time I got
mine.

*******D*A*M*N*****!!!!!!!!, what lousy timing!! The only vehicle I can drive
wide open any more is my 8,400-pound, 20-foot-long, 9-foot-high van, and that's
only in a bad headwind.

I loved my 79 Pace Car, and my 82 GT,84 GT, 85GT, 85 GT Convertible so I
think the 80's are out(ok, maybe 86).

Didn't drive it enough, around the block once or twice was about
it..........However, I do enjoy driving the BOSS 351 Mustang sitting in
the driveway(big grin)..............Now, if I could only track down my
85 GT track car....Now that was a fun to drive car(14 point rollcage and
all).........

Yours in Fords,

Bill S.

PS: So, how is the car coming along these days. Did you put in the 5spd
transmission yet??????? What about any other modifications????????

as usual, my interests have changed after spending about $2500
on the car. (My father's selling me his mint 1985 GT hatch for
a good price)

here is my for sale page:
http://www.geocities.com/dpantill/1983mustang.html

I did replace the 4 speed manual which I didn't mention in the ad,
it doesn't whine anymore.

It is a really reliable car. I drive it every few days when it's
dry out so I can enjoy it.

The problem is that I can't afford to have too many cars at once!

As mine have as well. Bought both the 70 Mustang convertible, and the
BOSS 351 Mustang, then found a great deal on a Shelby convertible in
FLA...Now both of these cars have got to go. know anyone interested, the
Ebay auctions end this weekend, with both cars going to the highest
bidders:

PS: Wish you luck in the sale of your car, I kind of miss it....

Bill-

I didn't know you had an '83 GL.... That's what mine is!

What the heck does GL mean, anyway? What was yours like? Engine,
options, color, anything...

I ordered a history 999 on mine, and that should be interesting to see,
but I still want to find out more about GLs in general. I have only seen
two others besides mine - one in Victoria, BC, and another here at
school. Any idea what their production numbers were?

I bought bill's 83 GL (hence my follow-ups)

You can get a look at it on my for-sale page:
http://www.geocities.com/dpantill/1983mustang.html

It's a great car, but I have too many right now.

It's 2 tone blue, blue interior, original 5.0 engine,
4 speed manual. It's very reliable and quick.

I think that a GL trim is analagous to a newer LX
trim. (86-93) It doesn't have the black sporty
"GT" dash. Instead it had the plastic wood dash.
Also, I think that 83 GT's had a little bubble on
the hood. (just for looks)

If you're really into it you can get a 1983 dealers
brochure on ebay for about $10. It shows what options
you had in 83. I bought one a few months ago, and
there are usually some for sale.

Hey Garth,

Not only did I own an 83 GL, but I owned "THIS" 83 GL thats is now
up forsale..............As for the "GL", I understood it to mean "Grand
Luxury", although, this has yet to be proven.

Yours in Fords,

Bill S.

PS: This is(ok, for me, was) a sweet riding/driving car.........Wish at
the time I had more money to spend, and more space in which to keep the
car........Oh well, these things happen from time to time..........

I'll say... Mine has a V6 and is totally bare bones... Like I said,
it'll be interesting to see the build sheet.

I'm off for spring break!

See ya all in 10 days or so!
