I've never been challenged by any rice-mobiles until today. At the end of
my highway off ramp, I make a yield to the right and merge into traffic. I
have my left blinker on and look into the left mirror, there I see & hear
(faaarrrttttt) an Acura Integra gassing it so I have to merge behind him. I
didn't have enough lane to down shift and go, probably wouldn't have anyway.
Well, there I was........ in the left lane at the next light, the Acura in
the right, and a car between us. I didn't hear any farts, so when the light
turned green I accelerated like I normally do. There he goes (faaarrrtttt)
on the gas hard, I blip the clutch for some rpm in first (chirp) then power
shift second (chirp). I'm next to him now and passing, shift 3rd nicely and
leave him. That's enough for me, I slow to a normal speed and he stays
behind me as we come to another light, Oh the Agony-O-De-Feet! I'm in the
center lane and he's behind me. The light turns green and again I leave
normally. I guess he wasn't satisfied with the first whippin', so he goes
around me on the right foot to the floor, (faaarrrtttt) so I leave it to the
floor in second even though I was at a low rpm. He was beside me till I
shifted to third, then again I left him behind. I slowed again, I had to
make a right soon, so I let him pass on the right and gave him a thumbs-up.
The car wasn't too ricy, I noticed a vtec sticker with a small Japan
character below it on the r.r. trunk, clear lenses all around, and of course
a 6" exhaust. I slowed more and changed into the right lane behind him. He
was movin' too fast but had to make the same right, so he plows and squeals
around the corner into the far lane, (I thought only our front heavy Stangs
plowed) while I turn into the close lane. I don't know if his rear slipped
to the left or he just didn't see me turn, but he abruptly changed to the
right lane only a few inches in front of me. I wish I could rewind time and
take back my "thumbs-up"!

I have found that rice burner owners take it to heart when you squash them.
They are all high and mighty on this marvel of engineering that they have
spent way to much money on, sounds like a elephant with gas, and moves like
a slug. When you squash them, they realize that they should have purchased
a real car, and are really mad at themselves. My girlfriend sells and
drives Hondas, good cars for women, so she comes into contact with rice
burner owners quite often. Hence I hear a lot about there mentality. Kind
of like that trolling rice burner in here the other day that was talking
about what the cars stood for in society. He was just really upset that he
could never experience acceleration in his car.

Ain't that the truth. It seems I see most pretty girls riding around (with
a guy of course) in convertibles. I am definitely thinking about a

The problem my have been that the guy had the usual rice-boy attitude. He
may have thought that your friendly thumbs up gesture was sarcastic and that
you were mocking his "ride". Or he could have mistaken the thumbs up for the
middle finger. Either way, I try to refrain from giving thumbs up because
they might be "offended". You never know with some people...

Today (I should say yesterday since it's after 12) I saw something that I think
might be an up coming trend in the low-rider-wannabe-pimp world. I was having
a smoke while standing outside my warehouse at the PX when a black mid to late
90s black Accord drives by. It had huge SKUNKWORKS RACING TECHNOLOGY decals
plastered across the rear quarter panels and of course the Japanese lettering
underneath the title. 5 minutes later I hear it farting its way back out of
the parking lot. The dumbass lit up the front right wheel and farts away down
the street. OOOOOh! I was so impressed. He managed to spin his wheel. Of
course he was able to, the wheel was cut all the way to the right and as it
was straightening out the wheel was doing a lot of hopping........not good for
those Honda half-shaft joints. Around Fayetteville/Ft. Bragg the trend with
these morons is to have these giant fart tips, huge stickers on quarterpanels,
and removing the hubcaps and/or factory alloy rims for black finished factory
steel rims for that racing look.

I got my 99 Cobra about 5 weeks ago. I dusted a couple of rice-mobiles
just for fun. Now I just ignore them. They aren't worth the time or the
trouble. Plus, I can just imagine them talking smack w/ their friends
saying they dusted a Cobra.
Now, I hunt for Camaros or Vette's. Beaten every Vette I've raced so
far but they were all pre- current generation.

I have been out of the "cool" car upgrade thing for quite some time, back then
it was glass packs :), but what is the fart exhaust thing and the benefit?
Another thing that puzzles me is the liitle tires that stick way too far out,
what is the reasoning behind that? I always like a massive tire that goes no
wider than the wheel well edge. Just curious...

I'm just guessing that your out of the 20's range, But that is just
the way kids today make themselves stand out from others. I use to
love glass packs also. Now my car is still loud -( not piercing ), but
it has a deep rumble/lope to it now. I was picking most of my cars up
for no more than $ 500. 98% of them with V8's in them and still in
fair shape. Now I can not believe some of the prices I see for cars I
wouldn't let my dog drive around in. There are a few cars around my
area ( Orange Co. N.Y.) that have that more tire out of the
wheelwell than in it and I laugh every time I see them. I'm waiting
for the day I see one and the outside of the tires will be off the
ground. With out a doubt LOL. It continues to get worse. Today I saw
and heard (from an 1/8 mile away) (don't know how to say it any other
way) a riced out Probe and a riced out Avenger. Both of them decked
out with like 20 inch wheels and 1 inch of rubber. All I can say is
that it must be so much easier to get your hands on a 4 cyl. front
drive car than a muscle car or even a V8 any thing. All of us older
guys/gals must be buying them up. Sorry for the rambling, got carried
away. For a real fun time with the ricers get your hands on a Hyundai
Tiburon w/5 speed, girl friends got one, the sticker mobiles get very
upset when you smok'm with a quiet unasuming car.

What is the take off in a Honda Accord V6 like? fast, slow, medium? Does it
burn rubber when you floor it? Too bad they only make it in automatic version.
If I put some NOS in one of those, I bet I could make it scream!

It's the insurance people, they're trying to kill the V8 and in my case the V6
as well. I'm 20 years old and drive a lowly Pontiac Bonneville and am paying
$600 every 6 months in insurance on a clean driving record. I'm looking to buy
a classic Mustang w/ a 289, but I'm afraid of how badly they'll screw me on
insurance. It's highway robbery!!

Yes, I also agree here. Except that they are not trying to kill the V-8 (IMHO). But
because of your age, they're exacting a pretty nasty penalty for your age group. I
thought they would do a number on me with my Pantera but surprisingly, insurance is
only 164 per six months on the cat. Reason: I don't use it as my daily driver. The
less you drive your classic, you don't tend to crunch it, therefore, insurance is
WAYYYY LOWWW. BTW, my carrier is State Farm. Cal.

hehe i'm 24, with a clean record and a 97GT, I'm paying 1000 every 6
months for insurance. That was the best price i could find around
here...Anyway, i'm getting married in a few weeks, and once i do, they
said my insurance drops 480 every 6 months...no difference...its still
me, but i have this little piece of paper that says i'm married...Its
rediculous if you ask me. What a scam...and i love it when i hear the
stories about people being great drivers and pay for insurance with
this company for years, and have one accident, then the company
refuses to pay for the damages and drops them...thats always real
great.

The coffee can muffler (aka "fart tip") benefit is mainly to make the
car look like it produces so much power that it needs this huge exhaust
to evacuate all the burnt air/fuel mixture. It also provides this
popular (among the riceboy culture) "pissed-off go-kart" sound. The
idea is to get people to look. This doesn't provide any actual
performance.

The little doughnut wheels/tires have been around for a long time and
I've still never figured them out. I think they can be directly traced
back to the Mexican low riders of S. California.

I bought my '88 GT new. It was black with red interior and had the red
stripe aound the body in the trim. Not long ago I was thinking how long
it's been since I've seen a black 3rd-gen GT that still had the red
stripe. Most people seem to take them off, like I did, to be
"different". Then when everybody did it, they all became the same
again. When I see one, it usually catches my eye.

Well, I saw one yesterday. In Gainseville, GA. Nice, clean, back GT
with the red stripe around the perimeter. unfortunately, it also had
those stupid little doughnut wheels sticking out a foot all around.
<sigh>.

I saw another 3rd-gen GT a few minutes later. I was in my '87 GN. He
was a few cars ahead in traffic, but I worked my way up in the right
lane. He was in the left. A stoplight up ahead. I thought this could
be the first time I've ever lined up against a Mustang at a light in my
GN. And as fate would have it, the light turned yellow! There was
nobody in front of me, but he had cars in front of him. They all had
time to beat the red light, but there's no way he could make it. I
slowed to stop. Unfortunately, he went through it on red. I felt
frustration and relief and the same time.

Today at the grocery store I saw a nice clean 4th-gen white Camaro
parked there. Had the V6 tires and the V6 exhaust pipe. Totally
stock...except for the "Z28" badges on the fender.

The Riceboy phenomenon is just another symptom of the "symbolism of
substance" culture so prevalent in our society these days. From the
President on down, practicality and reality just don't matter, as long
as you feel good and you get attention. You've got to make it "look"
like you're something that you're not. Your slogan is "how can I fool
'em today?" When you get "outted", it really pissed you off.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I am only 20, but I
can't believe I will have to compete with some of these punks for jobs, that
is if *they* can make it through college, which teaches reality and
discipline if you major in the right field. There is no way in hell that a
backward hat wearing, baggy jeans, riceboy who thinks he is another race
would make it through a tough major, such as any engineering or computer
fields. You are 100% correct, society is slowly degrading from the
President on down. I actually think I might live to see the downfall of the
United States. The downfall of the Roman empire started this way too, right?
Enough of my off topic rambling, have a nice memorial day.

If you can't make a front wheel drive V6 car spin the tires, it is sad.
Weight shift alone should do the job. Look at the Civic. On a wet road
it is almost impossible not to spin the tires and the Civic is a dog.

WinVN is a free newsreader... I thought you were using it. Right after I sent
