Unless you can notice it, I'd leave it. I've been told by many that one
quart between changes is not excessive by any means.

Don't worry about it! My old car, a '91 Cougar XR7 w/ 5.0 HO has
burned/used oil since I bought it w/ 45,000 miles on it. Now my
brother drives it, and it has over 110,000 miles on it. About 55,000
of those miles were from me, and I drove it hard. It still runs
great, and I don't think its any slower then it was when I first got
it! It seemed to burn/use more oil if I drove it very hard. I
wouldn't worry about it.

This isn't excessive at all. I wouldn't worry about it.

My 89 LX 5.0 burns almost 3 quarts every 3000 miles and I don't even
drive it that hard. Looking in to a GT-40 motor for it at some later
date...

Probably you need new valve seals.

I lose about a quart every 3k. I use Mobil 1 10W-30. I'd say I lose
about 1/2 from burning and 1/2 from the rear seal. That's on an 89
5.0 with only 60k miles.
Cheers,
Nah, Fords are known oil burners. Plus, one quart every 3k miles isn't
excessive anyway.
One quart every 3K is normal. Rebuild not needed till you hit
less than 1k per quart.

Oh, he speaketh the truth. I've got a 91 5.0 with a mere 20,000
miles, and it goes great, and it use a litre here and there. The
Ford guys around my parts didn't so much as raise an eyebrow when I
freaked out over this. (I also have a '67 289 with another 20K miles
on it, and if uses a drop of oil something is buggered *for sure*!!!)
Anyway, they said the PCV is probably the culprit on these new 302s
and to wind up the engine now and then on the hiway to keep the
insides of the engine fused nicely.

PS: Got a buddy with a '96 GMC truck and the same thing. So don't
worry.
