also, is your recommendation for both the protectant and the leather wipes,
or just the protectant on the vinyl?

Dont know about leather, but as for the vinyl, once you start using it,
always use it, and <if you can find some> one a month or so wipe it all down
with some silicone release agents <will help remove the silicone build up..
Now saying this Im driving a 17yr old fox body wagon <in whick most of the
dash is metal, but some of it is actually vinyl> and I use on the 93 XJ
dash, so far no problems but like I said I use it all the time. Is it for
you??? I would go with what the majority says here, after all my 2 daily
drivers arnt show cars, and my 2 show cars are all metal interiors.

I don't like armor all products. Have you ever seen what armor all does to
rubber? It turns brown after a while. I haven't heard anything about the
leather wipes, but I prefer to do it the hard way with conditioning cream.
It's a pain, but it really does the job. I think the stuff I use is made by
Meguiars.

There is a big sign in my garage. It has an Armorall bottle on it with a big
red circle crossed...

Armorall is BAD.

Silicone is BAD.

Causes nightmares to auto refinishers...I do paint in my garage so it's a no
silicone zone. Get a good leather cleaner with no silicone for the leather
and just keep the dash clean...

Just 2 cents.

LOL @ the image that just popped into my head - seat covers with a cow
print (like a Gateway box) and an udder hanging off the back of the head
rest...

Anyhoo, the stuff is called "Bag Balm". My Mom bought a small tin of it
a couple weeks ago, and it really does work wonders for keeping skin
soft and moisturized. Probably would do the same for real leather, like
Snow said, it's just dead cow skin. :)

Okay, It appears that Armor All is out, but I have already made ONE
application to the dash.

WHAT DO I DO... I now want to quit using it and move to something
better. Do I need to just start using another product or do I need to
somehow strip the armor all coat.

That's udder cream. :-) It's good on human skin that's dry as well. :-)

Actually, yes there is.
PRO products makes a vinyl and leather conditioner. it's called PREMO.
I only use it on my vinyl occasionally, once a month very lightly with a
damp cloth, and a light spritz on the cloth, then wipe the dash and panels.
If you put it on SPARINGLY, (I bought a gallon in May of 2000, still have
2/3 of it left) it works great on your tires, and your dash and door panels
and inside your engine compartment to keep the plastic parts looking fresh
(I spritz about twice on my wer engine, then use an old chamoise to dry it
off) It washes off easily, does not build up and does not yellow. It will
actually wear off if you just wipe your dash a few times with a damp cloth.

In fact, I just did my dash about an hour ago, here is a link to a picture.
http://www.kizthiz.com/PRO.jpg
It gives it a soft glow, not too shiny. Personally I dont like a shiny dash,
and this settles down in a couple of days so that the vinyl looks clean and
healthy, but doesnt reflect.

Silly as this may sound, good old fashioned Lemon Pledge Sprayed lightly on
a lint free cloth works great on things like your dash Gauge Cluster (the
clear oart) and the faces of your stereo.

Both have a small ammount of silicone, but nothing like Armor All.

The PRO products are fantastic, I have been using them for about 15 years,
with no ill effects. When I was young and tough, I used to detail cars and I
have found that nothing cleans carpet and upholstery like their C-49.
It dilutes 5 to 1, and rinses pretty easily. A gallon will last you a year
and a half.

The C-49 WILL eat the little painted markings off of your switches, so be
careful there. Since I have been using it, I have not bought anything like
Fantastic or 409 either, it makes a great all around the house cleaner.
Simply amazing. Nooo... I dont sell for them :)
Here's a link.
http://www.prowax.com/
Body and detail shops use it, and they may be listed in the phone book..
check their site, maybe they have a distributor near you.

PHEW! Hope this helps!

Lexol works good on the leather, clean it well first.
Good old fashioned saddle soap with glycerine is great for cleaning the
leather.

Another product I recently discovered for conditioning leather, is made by
P&S item #L460
It is a foam, it doesnt clean all that well, but it has great conditioners
and smells like brand new leather. Makes my worn out old Ford smell like
brand new.
If you use this stuff, be careful when you spray the foam on your leather.
If it sits for more than a second or two, it will foam a 'clean spot' where
the foam was, and leave you a clean stripe. I squirt a little on in one
spot, and rub it all over with a bit f old t-shirt, then buff it a little
later.

Get some C-49 from Pro... spray your dash, scrub it.
It will be a bitch getting all the soap and stuff off of your windows, but
worth it.

then, even just Pledge if you arent wanting to mess with all that fancy
stuff. Though, like I said, most conditioners will have traces of silicone,
and pledge sprayed on a cloth lightly will remove the dust. I dont think I
wuold use it much though.. the wax may be a problem down the line, I only
use it on the clear plastic parts now and then when I really want to
impress.

*grin* Good one Kate. Dunno about 'Bag Balm', but udder creme comes in
a big jar and is real good for chapped or chafed skin. Expecially in
the winter. No, not doan here in Fla, but up north where there is such
a thing as snow. I wouldn't use it on leather though. I've had godo
result with leather cleaner/conditioner as sold in furniture stores for
use on leather furniture. Tried that on a '92 Camry with leather
interior that had lots of cracks in it. Although it did not remove the
cracks, it smoothes out the leather making them less visible...

How's the finagling on the 03 going? :-)

Hi Paul :)
Well.. I think my son is actually going to buy my car.
I found a way to get an 03 at MSRP, which is agreeable.

Now we have to go do the numbers, and see how they fall.
If HE can afford it, and if *I* can afford it, then I suppose the next thing
is to get it ordered.

I'll remember that trick about the furniture store.. anytime you have
leather, it's good to know any trick you can!

Are you doing anything fun this weekend?

Definately. And that stuff is generally cheaper there than at the auto
store. And i'm wondering if it's not the same stuff. We have a big ole
leather couch (think italian leather) we use that stuff on. We're not
replacing it as we do dog rescue and all them little poochies are all
over it. But they can't harm it. *grin*

> Are you doing anything fun this weekend?

Yeah! Went to the flea market. Made my day. Found a 3' Taz groom to
complement the 3' She-Devil (Mrs. taz) bride I already had. Yes, I am
an avid Taz collector. *L* Also stumbled on a Toshiba clockradio in the
shape of Taz. My wife is in 7th heaven as she ran into an oilpainting
of a lighthouse that she has fond memories of. Yeah, we spent some
money, no 03 Cobra for us. *L*

No big hardship as I love my 95 V6. Just need to get her some new rims
as the stock steel wheels disgust me. I know what I want, but I do not
want to buy them new at Ford. I'm looking for a used set. Check the
page in my .sig. It has a link to the Tri and Five star ones I am
looking for.

*grin* Yeah, I like Marvin to but my taz collection is already bursting
my home office at the seams. :-) Right now I'm looking for a 'cling'
that is about 1.5' in diameter of taz with a seperate 'fist' punching

Well.. If I see a king size Taz, I'll be sure to holler at you!

Our living room is decorated in a 'Nautical theme'
Only one lighthouse painting, and a couple of Ocean watercolors.
It feels kind of peaceful in there most of the time.

There are so many lighthouses with the name 'Head' in them somewhere in
them, hard to guess which one.
I would definately like to see a photo of it though!

On my lighthouse, the artist that painted it, misnamed it, for a lighthouse
a little further down the coast.
We looked it up, and got it all correct, and mailed her a letter about it.
She died before we got a reply.

We actually went and visited the lighthouse, it is beautiful. In fact, I
have a photo of me with my first stang there.. somewhere!

Going WAY OT here, but what the heck...

Has either of you seen (pictures, paintings, models, whatever) the
Mukilteo, WA lighthouse? It's a neat one, very picturesque. 96 years
old, and equipped with a fully functional (and rare) fourth-order
Fresnel lens. Check it out @

Re: OT
Awww what the heck, it's at the end of a relatively dead thread anyway!

That IS a beautiful lighthouse! Nice detail on the exterior too.
Pigeon Point has the same lens, we went up in the lighthouse on the tour,
and got to look at the lens, and got a bird's eye view from above. It was
incredible.
I just felt a little taken back by the ingenuity of whoever thought of all
of those crystals there to reflect the beam.
Here are some good detail shots of it
http://www.rudyalicelighthouse.net/CalLts/PigeonPt/PigeonPt.htm
and a virtual look at the area

Yes please. As I said, it's a plastic cling. About 2' diameter of
Taz basically coming out of the metal. With a seperate 8" fist coming
out of the metal. I think they are called 'carclings'.

Our livingroom in our old place was 'southwestern'. With old western
pictures, rugs and the like. Haven't had time to decide what we are
gonna do with this one as we only moved here about 6 months ago.

The entry hallway is more or less nautical as well with ships,
lighthouses, limited edition pictures of manatees, dolphins and the
likes...

I mailed you a pic of the one we bought. If you like it, the artist has
more of different lighhouses and ships. He did a gorgeous one of a
cargo ship breaking in two in rough waters...

Yep to the first question, and the answer to the second (almost) lies in
this picture:

http://grace.evergreen.edu/~almgar01/mukilteo/Home-Panorama.jpg (Darn
power lines!)

The Mukilteo lighthouse /would/ have been visible if I had gone out to
the very corner of our deck. I was standing about 7 feet back when I
took that series of pictures. The lighthouse would be about where the
middle (skinny) skylight is on the house on the far right. My dad grew
up in Mukilteo, and my immediate family has lived here (in my great
grandma's house) for about 10 years now.

If you find your lighthouse/Mustang pics, I'd love to see them. :)
