well as always it looks like I put the cart before the horse I figured
it would be a lot easier finding this size motor but in this part of the
country it seems almost impossible to find one. Any one around that
deals with salvage doesn't keep anything old enough that has one in it.
I really want this motor and need an estamite of cost and where to find
one. if I use a 429 I am going to have to buy a 460 crank for $900 so I
would love to find someone with a block striped or seized that they want
to get rid of for cheap or will pay money for one that runs. however I
am going to tear it apart and turn it into a 500. any help would be
great and thanks to all those who gave me input on what to rebuild for a
year. I am thinking of a '71-73 as well. thanks again for your input.

Check your local want add press for full size Ford trucks and station wagon(
Lincoln's will also do), as they will have the motor your looking for.
personally, I prefer the early 72's to the later 77's, but don't be too
choosy.

what part of the country are you in? Here in BC they are easy and cheap to
find.

Where are you located? I have a 429 sitting on my garage floor. Located in
northeastern Pa. Would like $100 for it.

There's an NOS 460 crank on eBay for the next day or so. It's going
for $41 but its reserve is not met yet. Check out
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=182851242
or if that doesn't link, Search Automotive for 460. If this crank is
good, and the guy in PA's 429 block is good, you've got your parts for
maybe $150-200. HTH

Forgot to mention: the seller has a $50 shipping fee too on that 460
eBay crank. Still better than the $900 you were quoted...
