1) Today after school I locked my keys in my trunk and had to wait for my
dad to come bring the spare and unlock it for me. Well I started looking at
my car and I noticed cracked paint on the rear passenger side roof moulding!
Son of a B*tch!
2) On the ride home my rear end was clunking around while I was shifting up
and shifting down. It sounds like something in the drivetrain is banging
around.
3) I was going to call in tomorrow to get my car looked over, but it has 100
miles on it right now. I have heard stories of employees taking cars out for
joy rides and dogging them. I don't want some idiot dogging my car when it's
not even broken-in yet!
Any advice for my perdicament?
Complain to Ford.

Almost all 8.8's do this to some extent... complain to Ford.

Check the mileage and if you think it's excessive... complain to Ford.

On the note of mechanics " hot - rodding " cars....
I had a 1999 30th Anniversary Trans-Am Convert that I took in for the free
oil change. When I got it back the damn thing had 30 miles on it!! So, I
raised aaaaaaaalllllllllll sorts of hell at the service counter! The
service manager went and got the mechanic that was working on the car and
brought him out to me. He claimed that he did not drive the car anywhere
but from the service bay to the lot...etc...etc... So, I got PISSED and
started bitching up a storm, cause I knew some ASS CLOWN had been out joy
riding in my car.
This is the cool part......
A salesman was walking a couple through the service dept at the time... (
they were gonna purchase a car )... When they heard me bitching up a storm
the lady asked what happened. So, I told her what happened with the Service
Manager, Salesman and Mechanic standing right there. I pointed at the car
..( sitting right outside of window ).. and told her that someone put 30
miles on the car just for an oil change.
Her husband then chimes in...." They probably took it out joy riding"
I was a little pissed and said..." Gee ya think? "
Then the wife comes in with... " I don't think we should purchase a car from
here if that is what they do! "
About that time the Salesman and Service Manager freaked out!! The couple
pretty much turned around and walked out of the dealership.
I figured that was sweet justice for 30 miles on my car! ;-)
But to answer you question......
What to do?
When you drop the car off, speak with the Service Manager and let him / her
know that you are aware of the mileage and will not tolerate excessive
mileage on the car when you get it back. You will also have to understand
that the mechanic will have to drive it some to hear the noise from the
rear-end and then will have to drive it some after it is put back together.
Just hope they don't rack up too many miles.
Sorry for the long post, I just get carried away..:-)

Wasn't the mileage of the car noted on the invoice? Everytime I take my car(s)
in for service I make sure the work invoice has the mileage written down and I
check it when I get the car(s) back to see if any excessive miles have been
added.
I would think, unless this was overlooked, that you could argue the car received
30 miles of usage while it was in teh dealer's care and under his
responsibility.
What if anythign the dealer could or would do I don't know.
Sincerely,
MarcW.
As for the joy riding part, be sure to have the correct mileage noted on the
work invoice and be sure you get a copy of the work authorization and the actual
work invoice. When you get the car back, before you drive off, give the car a
thorough inspection looking for any dings, dents that weren't there before and
of course check the mileage.
If you find miles have been added, then and there is the time to bring this to
the attention of the service manager and maybe even the sales or dealership
manager.
Of course, better to prevent the miles from being added. You can ask the
dealer's service department on its test drive policy. In a few of the
dealerships I've been in, the policy is posted on the wall in the entrance to
the service area. At other dealerships, I never saw anything.
Anyhow, try to find out beforehand. If the dealer seems to be nonchalant about
the issue, maybe you need to find another dealership to have your car serviced.
Or you can try to impress the dealership with the idea that if it wants your
continued patronage, it had better keep a close eye on customers' cars that are
its responsibility while there. (However, the invoice fine print may contain
info which absolves teh dealership of any responsibility in this area...)
Sincerely,
MarcW.
Also, if you have a good stereo, or an A/C on hot summer days, they
will eat lunch in your car.
Exactly. The 'mechanics' (yes, more than one will wring the shit out of
your car) will simply claim that it needed to be driven to evaluate the
repairs that were just made.
The last time this BS was pulled with my car, they put 37 miles on it in
25 minutes. The pimple-faced lowbreed 'mechanic' then proceeds to tell
me after he finally returns, that he loves the exhaust work and
shifter. Management was anything BUT sympathatic to my complaint,
during the joyride, and after he returned. In fact, he acted as though
I were bothering him.
Bottom line: if you don't want to be treated this badly, don't go
anywhere near a Ford dealership, for any reason. I limit my visits now
to parts pick-up only, nothing else.
