The grey and blue ford cars were recalled, or so said my dealer. It wasn't only
mustangs, some trucks were also recalled. Call a few different dealers if you
don't trust the first answers. I believe most years of fox body cars were
repaintable under the program.

There is a central agency that lists consumer recalls, but the name of it
eludes me right now. Anybody else know?

I've got a blue '88 LX 5.0 (sedan) that the previous owner said was
repainted by Ford at no cost. This was done when the car was
approximately 5 years old. He said he received a survey or something in
the mail (and he was the second owner) and in his response he had
mentioned that the paint was peeling on trunk and roof(?). He was
pleasantly surprised when Ford offered to repaint the whole car free of
charge.

I owned an '88 LX 5.0 that I purchased new. It was Bright Regatta Blue
metallic. The paint started to flake off on the hood and around the
fenders after about three years. I was told by the local Ford dealership
that I could get it repainted free of charge. My husband did'nt believe
that a repaint job was a good idea. Anyway, I sold the car in '92. The
person that purchased the car went to the same Ford dealer and asked to
have the car repainted. They told her that they would only repaint it
for the original owner. She fought with the local dealer and Ford,
finally was able to get the car repainted. It was not a pleasant
experience for her.
